Kura Tāwhiti - Canterbury Community Foundation

Kura Tāwhiti - Canterbury Community Foundation We are the Community Foundation for Christchurch City, Selwyn and Waimakariri.

We are here to grow giving to benefit our communities now and for generations to come. The Christchurch Foundation works to grow philanthropy for the betterment of greater Ōtautahi Christchurch, New Zealand. We offer a range of ways to give, and donor support - providing donors and businesses the opportunity to give to the community that is aligned to community aspiration and is focused on making positive change. We don't take the place of, or compete with specific causes or organisations, instead we:
- actively draw in new resources for the not for profit sector
- actively support donors
- actively and positively engage and work alongside existing non-profit organisations, charities and fundraisers
- provide a city-wide vehicle for donors, to more easily give to a range of causes and communities
- provide professional advisors with a simple gateway for their clients' giving
- provide a range of giving mechanisms, such as bequests, endowments, diaspora or expat giving and city partner programmes
- promote greater Ōtautahi Christchurch and its causes generally

Riccarton House and Bush Pūtaringamotu belongs to all of us. Through Kura Tāwhiti Foundation, you can help care for its unique heritage and ecology, now and for future generations.

Your donation today can help fund essential improvements to Riccarton House and Bush like the new roof and boardwalk. Or, if you’d like your generosity to keep giving, you can make a larger gift to our new endowment fund, where your gift will be invested and grown to provide ongoing support for years to come. You can also choose to leave a gift to the endowment in your will.

Donate online or learn more about endowment giving here:

For over a century, Pūtaringamotu Riccarton Bush has stood as a living gift 🍀

Entrusted to the people of Canterbury by the Deans family in 1914, it is the last remnant of its kind in the world: home to 600-year-old trees, native birds, wētā and geckos found almost nowhere else on the Canterbury Plains, and to Riccarton House itself, one of the oldest dwellings still standing in the region.

Protecting this place for the next hundred years requires ongoing support from the local people who love it.

Donate to the Riccarton House and Bush Capital Improvement Fund to help preserve and enhance Riccarton House and Bush Pūtaringamotu for everyone to enjoy. Your gift will be passed on to the Riccarton Bush Trust to support capital improvements to keep the House and Bush safe and accessible over the next five years.

Last week’s pop-up at The Tannery was a treat, and we’re not just talking about the ones on the table. 😉

Lynne and Polly were nearly run off their feet with so many lovely locals stopping by to pick up a Will Information Pack and talk about their plans for what happens when they’re gone.

Which sounds a little morbid, until you realise that love is leaving instructions.

Whether it's love for your family, your community, your hometown or a mix of all three, creating a will and keeping it up to date is one of the simplest ways to look after the people, places and causes you care about. And if you choose to leave a gift in your will to Kura Tāwhiti Foundation, we can help that love live on in Canterbury...forever.

You can explore our wills resources and even make a free online will here: https://www.kuratawhiticcf.org.nz/wills-month

A special shoutout to The Tannery Boutique Shopping, Dining & Arts Emporium for hosting us on Saturday (and for matching our aesthetic so well! ✨)

There’s a misconception we’d like to clear up...

Many people assume that leaving a gift in their will to a local cause means taking something away from their family. But recent research shows that making a difference in your community is one of the top reasons New Zealanders choose to include a charitable gift in their will, and that this can sit comfortably alongside providing for their whānau.

September is Wills Month, and leaving a gift to Kura Tāwhiti Foundation can complement, rather than compete with, what you leave to your family. It’s an act of love for both the people you raised, and the place that raised you. ❤️

Riccarton House and Bush Pūtaringamotu belongs to all of us ❤️

Gifted to the people of Canterbury by the Deans family in 1914, this is a place like no other. Where else in Christchurch can you find 600-year-old trees, native birds, insects and geckos, and an original Victorian-Edwardian homestead? Where else in the world, for that matter?!

That’s why we’ve teamed up with Riccarton House & Bush to launch the Riccarton House and Bush Capital Improvement Fund, making it easier for our community to help care for this remarkable taonga now and for generations to come.

We had such a lovely time launching the fund at the Christchurch Farmers' Market this weekend. A big thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello and make a donation!

You can support Riccarton House and Bush with an online donation below, or get in touch to explore leaving a gift in your will.

This year's Te Wiki o te Reo Māori theme is Te Reo Towns, a nationwide push to get te reo Māori into everyday life across Aotearoa.

We're celebrating Te Wiki with a whakataukī that captures what community foundations do best:

Hei whakakaha i ngā hāpori o Aotearoa, to strengthen
the communities of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Kia kaha te reo Māori. Te Wiki o te Reo Māori runs 14–20 September.

The future of giving belongs to the next generation, so we want to know what you think it should look like. 👀

What causes matter to you? Would you give as part of a group? And what would make giving feel more accessible to youth?

If you're a young person in Canterbury with a couple of minutes to spare, we'd love your perspective to help us understand what a youth giving initiative could look like in Waitaha.

Tell us what you reckon here: https://tally.so/r/Mex7BX

If you're young in spirit and keen to help, share this with a young person in your life and encourage them to have their say. ❤️
