Young Vinnies at Sacred Heart School Te Kura o Te Ngākau Tapu, Addington doing the mahi to spread some positivity throughout their school!

Our Young Vinnies had a wonderful time getting creative with a rock painting activity, turning simple rocks into colourful reminders of hope, kindness and encouragement. The students added positive messages and Bible verses to their rocks, creating little messages of positivity to brighten someone’s day and remind others that they are valued and cared for.

And the fun doesn’t stop there. In Term 4, our Young Vinnies will be putting their skills to the test with a fun scavenger hunt around the school.

It’s been a great opportunity for the students to connect, be creative and think about how small acts of kindness can make a big difference in the lives of others.

Faith, creativity, teamwork and a whole lot of fun.

Young Vinnies Putting Faith Into Action!

A huge congratulations to the Young Vinnies at Our Lady of the Snows School, Methven, who have been putting their faith into action this Term 3 through an incredible fundraising effort!

The Rūma Kauri class took on the challenge of organising a raffle from start to finish — sourcing prizes from local businesses, selling tickets, organising the draw and bringing their school community together to support a great cause.

And their hard work paid off… they raised an incredible $2,701!

What makes this achievement even more special is how they have chosen to use their fundraising. The students have donated:

- $500 to Young Vinnies, supporting our work with families experiencing financial hardship and helping us continue to support people in their local community.

- $500 to Caritas, supporting the work of another organisation putting Catholic Social Teaching into action.

The students have been learning about Catholic Social Teaching through their Religious Education programme, and their decision to use their fundraising to support others is a wonderful example of faith in action, service and social justice.

A very special thank you to the families, students, teachers and the Methven community, who got behind the raffle by donating prizes, selling tickets and supporting the fundraiser.

And of course, thank you to all the local businesses and sponsors who generously donated prizes. Your support helped make this fundraiser possible and showed the students the difference a generous community can make.

We are incredibly proud of our Young Vinnies!!!

💙 You Belong to God | Social Justice Week 2026
This Social Justice Week, the New Zealand Catholic Bishops remind us of a simple but powerful truth:

“I have called you by name, you are mine.” — Isaiah 43:1

Every person is created in the image of God. Our dignity does not depend on what we own, where we come from, what we have achieved, our health, our circumstances, or even the mistakes we have made. In God’s eyes, we belong.

For St Vincent de Paul, this goes to the very heart of our Vincentian vocation. When we meet someone struggling with poverty, homelessness, loneliness, illness or hardship, we are not simply meeting a “client” or responding to a need. We are meeting a person loved by God — someone with a name, a story, hopes, fears and an inherent dignity.

That is why our work must always be about more than food parcels, clothing, furniture or practical assistance. These things matter enormously, but they are also opportunities for relationship, listening, compassion and encounter. We are called to recognise Christ in the person before us and to make sure they know, through the way we treat them:

You matter. You are valued. You are not forgotten. You belong.

The Bishops invite us this week to defend human dignity wherever it is ignored or undermined — particularly among those who are poor, homeless, elderly, unwell, living with disability, isolated or vulnerable.

For us as Vincentians, that invitation is very practical:

See the person.
Listen to their story.
Protect their dignity.
Walk alongside them.
Love without judgement.

Because charity is not simply what we give.

Charity is love — and every person belongs to God. 💙💛

💙 Term 3 Young Vinnies – Can Drive

This Term 3, our Young Vinnies are taking action through our Can Drive! Students are leading the way by rallying support within their schools and encouraging their friends, families and wider school communities to get behind this important initiative.

Every can donated will help stock the local Vinnies Food Bank, providing essential food supplies to individuals and families in our community who may be experiencing hardship.

But the Can Drive is about more than collecting food it’s about young people putting their faith into action. It gives our Young Vinnies the opportunity to lead, serve others and make a meaningful difference in their community.
