Interests in Conserving the Identity of Christchurch (IConIC) What is it about Christchurch that makes people choose to live here? What is it that attracts so many visitors? What is so unique about Otautahi?

Welcome to IConIC, a group that actively promotes the recovery and revitalisation of the many parts that make up the whole that is Christchurch's unique identity. IConIC recognises the essential role of the recovery of city and its restoration as a vibrant place of economic, social, cultural and public life. We see that the decisions that are made today determine the nature and success of the city

’s future. Every community that has ever lived in Christchurch has been represented by the history that is present in our natural and built environments. IConIC believes that in order to envision our future we must first look to the past as an irrevocable part of our local and national identities. With the recent earthquakes the status of our built surroundings has been questioned repeatedly; IConIC aims to facilitate dialogue between local government (Christchurch City Council), CERA, other organisations and the community.
