As this season comes to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on what an incredible 2025/26 season it has been for the Sumner Surf Life Saving Club ❤️💛

From long days on the beach, early morning trainings, patrols, pool sessions, competitions, fundraising, volunteering and everything in between — this season has been one to remember. None of it happens without the dedication, passion and commitment of our amazing members, parents, coaches, officials, volunteers and supporters 👏🏼

A huge congratulations to all award winners at the Sumner Club Prizegiving. Every single award reflects countless hours of hard work and commitment to our club and community!

Special congratulations to:
🏆 Kaja Jolly – U19 Lifeguard of the Year
🏆 Rongjie Lee – Lifeguard of the Year
🏆 Sjaan Bowie – Volunteer of the Year
🏆 James Quinn – Best All Rounder

We also want to acknowledge the outstanding success Sumner had at the Canterbury Awards of Excellence the other weekend, taking out Club of the Year 🏆

Get ready for a night to celebrate, debrief on the season, and party 🎉

We’re wrapping up an epic season in style – think awards, great food, drinks flowing, and a live band to keep the vibes high all night long 🕺💃

📍 Where: Sumner Surf Life Saving Club
📅 When: Saturday 2nd May
⏰ What’s happening:
Doors and bar open at 3:30 pm with prize giving commencing shortly after. Live music will kick off around 5:30 pm and wrap up at 8:30 pm 🎶

💫 What to expect:
Delicious dinner, well-deserved awards, good company, and a dance floor that won’t quit

👗 Dress code: Smart casual (look good, feel good!)

Bring your team spirit, your loudest cheers, and your best moves – let’s celebrate an incredible season together 🙌

What a weekend it was at IRB Nationals in Gisborne 🔥🌊

Three full-on days of racing, tough competition and plenty of laughs along the way. The crew showed up and delivered, coming away with:

🥇1 Gold
🥈2 Silver
🥉4 Bronze
Finishing 3rd overall on club points💪

Massive shoutout to our Open Males Nick Hornblow + Ryan Thom and Open Females Jade Couch + Leanni Browne for both finishing 3rd overall in their divisions – such a solid effort 👏

With many finals made across the board, plenty of great racing, and an all-round epic team vibe, we couldn’t ask for much more to wrap up the season.

We’re absolutely fizzing after that weekend - bring on next season💥

The fizz is REAL… following South Island IRB Champs in Warrington last weekend 💥🍾

Racing wrapped early due to conditions, but that didn’t stop the team from showing up and delivering when it counted. With results taken from completed events, we made every race count, taking out:

🏆 Top Club Overall 🏆

🥇 4 Gold
🥈 9 Silver
🥉 3 Bronze

An incredible effort across all divisions, with special shoutouts to:

Open Men – Nick Hornblow & Ryan Thom
U19 Female – Sienna Caetano & Zara Harrington

Both crews taking out top spots in their divisions 🙌

What stood out most wasn’t just the medals — it was the energy. Team spirit and determination were on show all day, even in testing conditions 💙❤️

To take out Top Club for the first time in 16 years is something pretty special. The work behind the scenes and consistent grind are all showing 👏🏼💥

Massive congratulations to our IRB crew for some awesome results at the Otago Champs in Warrington last weekend! 🌊🚤

The team raced hard, showing huge determination, skill, and teamwork out on the water. It was great to see the effort from everyone involved and the results that followed 💥💪

DAY 4 done and the 2026 Surf Sport Nationals are officially complete ✔️

Board rescues, board relays and Taplins wrapped up the final day, with a great lineup of team events to close out an awesome week of racing! 🏄🏼‍♂️

Day 4 Results

• 12th – Open Mixed Taplin
• 14th – U17 Board Relay
• 14th – U17 Taplin

Semi-Finals
• 7th – U19 Board Rescue 
• 9th – Open Board Rescue

Across the 4 days Sumner achieved:

Day 3 - New Zealand Surf Lifesaving Championships in Ohope delivered another stunning day of racing!

Surf teams, ski relays, diamonds, irons and beach flags kept everyone busy, with the team putting in some fantastic performances. We had 6 semifinals and 3 finals across the day – an awesome effort from everyone competing.

Highlights included:
🥉 Jake Seipp with another outstanding performance, taking bronze in the U15 Diamond!
👏 Hugo finishing 8th in the U15 Diamond
👏 Charlie placing 10th in the U17 Beach Flags

Day 2 – New Zealand Surf Lifesaving Championships 2026 | Ōhope ☀️🌊

Another absolute stunner of a day at Ōhope yesterday for the team! A massive programme with Run Swim Runs, ski races, board races, surf races and beach sprints keeping everyone busy.

The team put in a huge effort across the board with 24 finals made and 13 athletes progressing through to semifinals – awesome work everyone! 💪

A big shoutout to Jacob Seipp bringing home two 🥉 medals in the U15 Run Swim Run and U15 Surf Race – what a result! 👏

Plenty to be proud of. Rest up team and get ready to go smash it today! 🔥🌊

Solid start to the NZ Surf Lifesaving Championships at Ohope for the team!

Awesome racing today with the Masters wrapping up and some strong performances across the board. 💪

🥇Mark – 55–59 Masters Board Race & Iron

🥈 Ron – Huge day in the 30–34 Masters with 6 silver medals across surf, board, ski, iron, flags & sprints!

Other highlights:
• Emme 7th – Open Female 2km Beach Run
• Ben 7th – 45–49 Masters Board Race
• Huntley 7th – 50–54 Masters Ski Race
• Masters relays finishing 4th, 8th & 8th

Great effort from the U17 boys making the Rescue Tube Final too! 🔥

Lots of solid semi-final performances and big runs from the juniors.

Rest up, recover, and go out and smash Day 2 tomorrow! ☀️🏄🏼‍♂️🏃🏽‍♀️
