Big Brothers Big Sisters of Christchurch

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Christchurch One Hour. Once a Week. One Life. Supporting local young people to develop their full potential through positive mentoring relationships.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a registered not-for-profit, providing one-to-one mentoring for kiwi kids facing societal challenges and barriers to achievement. We are part of the worlds largest volunteering network and our dream is 'kia eke noa a taiohi - that all taiohi/young people can realise their full potential'. One hour once a week is all it takes to change the life of a child and being you i

s the only skill you need to be a mentor/tuakana. Mentors/tuakana are positive role models who provide support, friendship and fun to young people facing adversity. Mentors come from a diverse range of cultures and backgrounds, from students to CEO's, bankers to retirees. They are regular everyday people who understand it takes a village and simply want to be that friend and make a positive impact on a young life. While our service supporting whฤnau, families and communities is free, the cost of making and supporting safe, sustainable and sucessful mentoring relationships for young people is not and we rely soley on the support of our community to help us provide mentoring where it's most needed. We've been matching young people with mentors in Aotearoa since 1996 and with 3500+ matches now we see time and time again the life-changing effects of this connection and our young people thrive. Do you want to make a difference in your community? Partner with us today and help change young lives together!

๐ŸšจURGENT!๐Ÿšจ

Quiz lovers, trivia dabblers, lucky guessers, and anyone who just loves backing a great cause, this is your call! We need more people.

The Big Quiz 2026 is tomorrow night, and we still have tickets to sell. Fundraisers like this are hugely important for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Christchurch, especially right now when the financial pinch is being felt.

Every ticket helps us continue creating life-changing mentoring relationships for taiohi across ลŒtautahi, matching young people with trusted tuakana who show up, listen, encourage, and help them see their own potential.

You do not have to be a quiz champion. You just need to be willing to gather some friends, have a laugh, and support a kaupapa that truly matters.

๐Ÿ“… Tomorrow night - grab a table from 6pm at the Fox and Ferret, The Palms
๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ Tickets still available, just $20 each (max 6 to a team)
๐Ÿ’œ Come for the quiz. Stay for the impact.

Please grab a ticket, bring a team, or share this with someone who might. We would love to see the room full for our rangatahi.

Just look at those huge smiles! ๐Ÿ˜โœจ Amelia, our Little/Teina, and Kirstie, her new Big/Tuakana, were so excited to meet each other recently and begin their mentoring journey together. ๐Ÿ’œ

Matched through their shared love of arts and crafts ๐ŸŽจ, sewing ๐Ÿงต, creativity โœจ, and getting active ๐ŸŒฟ, these two already have so much to explore side by side.

We canโ€™t wait to see the creativity, fun, friendship, and adventures that grow from here. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ‘

A heartfelt thank you to the David Ellison Charitable Trust, managed by Public Trust, for their funding towards our programme costs.

Every bit of this support helps us continue creating and nurturing meaningful mentoring relationships for tamariki and rangatahi across ลŒtautahi, giving them the encouragement, connection, and confidence they need to thrive.

This National Volunteer Week, we honour the collective energy, aroha and effort of our incredible volunteer Mentors/Bigs and Board Members.

Each year, our volunteers give around 11,000 hours of their time, care and skills to support our Littles, creating safe, positive mentoring relationships that help taiohi feel seen, valued and encouraged.

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Christchurch, we support around 170 matches each year, which means 170 amazing Bigs showing up for their Littles with consistency, kindness and heart. Alongside them, our 10 dedicated Board Members generously share their expertise and leadership to strengthen our kaupapa.

This yearโ€™s National Volunteer Week theme, Your Year to Volunteer โ€“ Tลu tau ki te tลซao, marks the International Year of the Volunteer 2026 and celebrates the diversity of volunteers, the collective strength of mahi aroha, and the power of social action in our communities.

Volunteering is essential for social wellbeing, resilience and connected communities. It must be celebrated, supported and resourced.

To our Bigs and Board Members: thank you for the time you give, the skills you share, and the difference you make for our Littles. Your impact is mighty.
