Further to the passing of Billy Lochrie.
It is sad to announce:
(Snaffled/Borrowed from the Naval Community page)

CROSSED THE BAR – LTCDR (rtd) Bill Morley
It is with deep regret that we note the passing of LTCDR (rtd) Bill Morley MBE BEM this morning.
LTCDR Morley had a distinguished 40-year career in the Navy, which included early promotion to Warrant Officer Gunnery Instructor and commissioning from the ranks after 23 years as a rating.
LTCDR Morley joined the Royal New Zealand Navy as a Seaman Boy in January 1960, going on to serve in frigates HMNZS Otago, HMNZ Pukaki, HMNZS Waikato (South East Asia (SEA) operations) and HMNZS Canterbury (East Timor Service), as well as cruiser HMNZS Royalist during the Indonesian Confrontation.
In March 1970 on board Waikato in heavy seas, Forecastle Petty Officer Morley and two others were swept overboard by a huge wave. One man died from his injuries, while Morley and the forecastle officer, with no life jackets, clung to a life ring. After two hours the pair were collected by the ship’s helicopter, as the ship struggled to approach safely because it was too rough. As the stronger, fitter swimmer, Morley pushed the officer into the winch first and followed in the second winch lift. Morley’s efforts are considered an exemplar of courage, commitment and comradeship.
He was awarded the British Empire Medal in 1971 and was made a Member of the British Empire in 1981 for services to the NZDF.
He discharged from the Navy in 1987, joining the reserves and working in local government in the Bay of Plenty as a Civil Defence and Emergency Planning Manager, while also the honorary Naval Relations Officer in Tauranga.
LTCDR Morley rejoined as a regular in March 1996. His appointment as Naval Public Relations Officer was timed with a Naval information strategy driven by Rear Admiral Fred Welch to improve internal communication and Navy public relations. LTCDR Morley and RNZN Corporate Relations Manager Jo Bunce produced the first edition of monthly publication Navy Today in June 1996. He discharged from the Navy in 2001.
During his service LTCDR Morley represented the New Zealand Defence Force in cricket, rugby and sailing.
The Bill Morley Seamanship Training Aid facility at Devonport Naval Base is named in honour of his legacy and achievement. He and RADM Jack Steer officially opened the facility on 9 March 2015.
LTCDR Morley’s funeral will be on Friday 9 June, 1400, at Devonport Naval Base and all are welcome.

Shipmates,
It has been a few Days now since the Passing (Crossing the Bar) of our Commander in Chief
Her Royal Highness (HRH) Queen Elizabeth II
We are about to move into the final phase of the mourning period and it is at this final stage the the Navy (Royal Navy) come into the fore.
The Navy have been tasked to execute a Ceremonial State Funeral for the Her Majesty, The Queen (E II R) in Latin, "Elizabeth II Regina"

NAVAL FUNERALS
https://www.commsmuseum.co.uk/dykes/navyfunerals/navyfunerals.htm

The Last time that this Ceremonial State Funeral took place was after the funeral of the British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill (1965)
Followed by the Funeral of the late:
Lord Louis Mountbatten (Admiral of The Fleet The Earl Mountbatten of Burma KG, PC, GCB, OM, GCSI, GCIE, GCVO, DSO) (1979)
A once in a life time (for some of us) event, well worth viewing.
Here you will be able to see the meticulous planning, training and ex*****on of this evolution

This Evolution is a major task to be taken on by the (R.N.) Navy, for further complete reading we "Crave You" (in the words of the leader of the House of Commons, Rt. Hon. Penny Mordaunt, at St James's Palace) to view the web site above listed as "Naval Funerals" and subsequent site's all written up by Godfrey (Jeff) D***s: Ex Fleet Warrant Officer, Radio Communications Instructor, R.N. who was tasked as being the Leader of the Coffin Bearers at Lord Mountbatten's funeral.

From a Gunnery Prospective you will see how the involvement of HMS Excellent (Whale Island) was towards these evolution's.
You will note also, that even though many of sailors that are part of this event will be PO's, CPO's & WO's, all dressed in the "Square Rig".

We as an Association ask of you to Immerse yourselves into what will be an Historic ("Once in a Lifetime") event from a Naval prospective.

We have also listed the Movie footage (U Tube) of the previous two major naval events

FELLOW Shipmates....
:DO YOU HEAR THERE"

Greeting shipmates
The Chief of Navy and the Warrant Officer of Navy will be visiting us "Informally" on Thursday the 28th July at the Papanui RSA and have asked that all Naval Personal, Past & Present, are welcome to come along and have a chance to Spin a Dit !
They are expected to be onboard at around 1800.

So, come and have a drink , have dinner in our Cafe and meet the Chief of our Navy and WON.
This is an informal gathering and dress/Rig is informal.

Raffles start at 1700 and the "ODE to the Fallen" will be recited at 1800.

It would be good to have a good Navy turn-out .

See you there

Doug
