St Nicholas Netball Club wish to acknowledge the passing of Frances Granger.

Frances was a St Nicholas Netball Club B Team Coach during the 2002 season. Daughter Deidre also played for the St Nicholas Netball A Team the same year.

Frances thank you for your contributions to the game we all love so much. Our thoughts are with your friends and whānau at this time.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Frances Granger, affectionately known to many as Francie❤️🖤

A Silver Fern (1974–75), Frances represented New Zealand in 12 test matches and was part of the team that competed at the 1975 World Netball Championships.

Following her playing career, Frances made a significant contribution to netball as a coach across Canterbury and beyond. She was involved with the Canterbury representative programme, the Canterbury Flames, Lincoln University, and secondary schools including Rangi Ruru Girls’ School and Rangiora High School, supporting and developing players across all levels of the game.

Her passion for netball extended internationally, with coaching roles in Fiji, Wales, and Botswana - sharing her knowledge and love for the game with communities around the world.

Frances’ impact spanned generations, leaving a lasting legacy within our netball community and beyond.

Our thoughts are with her whānau and all those who knew her.

🖤❤️🤍 Meet our - Year 7 M Team

This season we are fortunate enough to have two Year 7 teams! A big ngā mihi to Jess Neale and Sarah Martyn for stepping into help with this team whilst we found a coach for the season, your efforts have been very much appreciated.

Our M team is a team of girls who have previously played with Pareawa Banks Avenue School, Ōtautahi Netball Club and a few individual players too.

We are excited to see one of our clubbies step up and coach this team this season. Isla has played netball with St Nicholas Netball since 2020, initially as a Future Fern in Year 5 and has progressed through the years as a defence player, her favourite position GD. Isla is playing this season in our U16 J team.

The M team had their first game last Saturday against Ōtautahi, all players had loads of fun trying out different positions on court. It was great to see them cheering on their team when not on court and giving it their all. At the end of the third quarter the score was even, with Ōtautahi gaining some pace in the last quarter to take the win 26-15. We wish Isla and her team the best for the season ahead.
