Sport Canterbury

Sport Canterbury As one of New Zealand’s Regional Sports Trusts, our vision is more people, more active, more often. We continue to grow our hapori.

In 1989, Sport Canterbury was established as the Regional Sports Trust for the Waitaha Te Tai Poutini regions. The role of sport is to provide people of all ages with a sense of community and connection. For that reason, for over 30 years we have been committed to empowering coaches, clubs and sports. We know the value that sport, play, physical activity and recreation have in building better comm

unities - helping people feel good about themselves. Sport Canterbury is also the home of Healthy Families Ōtautahi, Healthy Active Learning, Community Strength and Balance and Workplace First Aid, collaborating with partners in health and education to improve outcomes for the wellbeing of our whānau.

Great momentum in the coaching space over the past six weeks 🙌

Seven student coaching workshops have been delivered across the region, alongside a mix of in-person and online courses for adults, covering Introduction to Coaching, Mental Skills, and Coach Development.

Community Coach Developers also came together for a dedicated training day. This group of volunteers plays a big role in supporting and growing coaches within their sports, helping keep coaching strong across our communities 💛

The standout has been seeing so many rangatahi stepping up to coach and lead. That next wave of leaders is already making an impact on the sidelines 👏
