Canterbury Historical Dance

Canterbury Historical Dance From the robust branles of the Renaissance to the vivacious quadrilles of the Victorian grand balls - no matter what we dance, we do it for fun!

Canterbury Historical Dance is a group of people brought together by their enjoyment of early dance and social dancing throughout history. We have built a repertoire that spans the Italian Renaissance to the reign of Queen Victoria using a variety of sources from facsimiles of period dance manuals, to interpretations on YouTube. If you love to dance and want to explore the wonders of Renaissance,

Baroque, Regency or Victorian dancing, come and join us! No experience is necessary. (Canterbury Historical Dance grew out of the Christchurch Regency/Victorian Dance Group, as our area of interest and participation expanded.)

Hello, dear dancers and time travellers! This is an event worth your notice: an evening of French/European dance brought to Christchurch by the renowned Kate Grace from Balfolk Dunedin. The dance will be accompanied by live music from Entrada (violin/mandolin and guitar). See you there! :-)
