Cats Protection League Canterbury - NZ

Cats Protection League Canterbury - NZ We rescue, rehabilitate and rehome stray, abandoned and unwanted cats and kittens and assist with desexing and urgent veterinary fees where cost is an issue.

Established in 1971, incorporated in 1973, and now a charitable trust, the League is a registered charity dedicated to relieving pain and suffering in cats and kittens in Canterbury, New Zealand. We rescue, rehabilitate and rehome stray, abandoned and surrendered cats and kittens and help where we can. If you are interested in adopting a cat or kitten, please ring our cattery on 03-3840006, option

1 or email [email protected], to discuss and/or to make an appointment to view those available. The cattery is situated at 14 Charlesworth Street, Woolston, Christchurch and is open from 11am to 3pm on Saturday and from 11am to 2.30pm Tuesday to Friday. It is closed on Sundays (temporary), Mondays and Public Holidays. Our office is also situated at 14 Charlesworth Street, Woolston and is open from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday (excluding Public Holidays). They can be contacted on 03-3840006, option 2 or by email [email protected]. Along with general advice our office provides the following services:

- We take in stray, abandoned and surrendered cats and kittens by way of a wait list although we assist in emergency situations as soon as possible.

- If your cat requires urgent veterinary treatment we can assist with vet fees where cost is an issue, including allowing you to pay off treatment in some circumstances.

- We run a desexing programme called the Feline Fix where we try to get as many cats desexed as we can. Discounted and subsidised prices are available to community service card holders and people with a low income at selected vets around Canterbury.

- We run a lost and found service. We encourage any pet owners who have lost their cat to list them on the page Lost Cats Christchurch, Trade Me and www.animalregister.co.nz.

- We hire out trapping and holding cages. The fees are $5 for trapping cages and $10 for holding cages plus a refundable bond of $20. As a charity we also appreciate donations of food and goods for the cats and of course money. Food and goods for the cats cat be dropped off at our cattery or office at 14 Charlesworth Street in Woolston during our opening hours listed above. Cash and eftpos donations can also be accepted there or they can be made to our bank account 02-1259-0057270-000 or via our givealitte page; https://givealittle.co.nz/org/cplcats

Thank you to everyone who has supported us by donating lots of goodies for our foster team. We are incredibly grateful to every single one of you 🥰
We are still needing carry cages to transport our cats to and from the vet clinics and to be able to get them safely into the centre for adoptions. If you have any unused, unwanted, or old carry cages that you would like to donate, we would very much appreciate them.
Thank you all once again, we love our incredible supporters 🐱

Tui is a very timid girl who was surrendered with her housemate as they weren't coping in the household. They were adopted together however Tui was returned as they weren't getting on. It can be difficult to find a suitable home for a shy cat, but Tui has been lucky enough to be chosen twice, and she went to her new home today. :)

FOUND IN SCARBOROUGH

This tabby DSH female cat came into CPL care on Friday 12th June. She was found in Godley Drive Scarborough, an area backing onto paddocks.

She is about 2-5 years old, very friendly and smoochy. It is unknown whether she has been desexed and she has no microchip, but her fur is thin around her neck, suggesting she has worn a collar at some point.

If this cat belongs to you, contact the Cats Protection League on (03) 3840006, selecting option 1. Please be prepare to provide evidence of ownership.

RESERVED FOR ADOPTION

Meet Cashew. Cashew is a handsome teen (older kitten) who is friendly but can be shy when meeting new people. He warms fairly quickly once he is comfortable. Cashew enjoys having company and is always happy to spend time with his people, whether that’s playing with toys or simply being close by. Cashew has a playful side and loves a good toy to keep him entertained. He can also be quite chatty and is not shy about sharing his thoughts with the people he trusts.

Cashew will be best suited to a quiet home. Since Cashew can be nervous, he would do best around older confident children. We do not know how Cashew would cope around other cats or dogs.

Darling Cooper was surrendered as Bi Lateral Entropian in both eyes, which required two surgeries to correct. Bi Lateral Entropian is a highly painful condition where both eyelids roll inwards causing eyelashes to run against the cornea. He quickly won the heart of one of our volunteers and went to his new home with them today. :)

Sweet Frills, who was surrendered as her owner had too many cats, went to her new home today. :)
