Whether you're looking for a challenge, a great night out, or a way to meet new people, there's a Scottish dance style for you!

At the Scottish Society of New Zealand, we're proud to celebrate all three. Which one would you choose? Or better yet... why not try them all?

On this Mother’s Day, the Scottish Society of New Zealand sends love and gratitude to all the mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, and those who carry a mother’s kindness in their hearts.

As the old Scots spirit reminds us, there is no blessing warmer than a mother’s care, no strength steadier than her hand, and no love more enduring through life’s seasons.

“Beannachd Dhè ort, a Mhàthair”
(May God bless you, dear Mother)

Today we give thanks for the women who have guided us with patience, laughter, wisdom, and quiet courage — from Scotland to Aotearoa New Zealand, and everywhere our families call home.

Wi’ grateful hearts, we wish ye all a peaceful and joyful Mother’s Day. 🌿💜

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Did you know Scotland has two iconic flags?

The most recognised is the Saltire — the white diagonal cross of St Andrew on a blue background. Legend says it appeared in the sky before a battle in 832, inspiring victory and becoming a powerful symbol of Scotland’s faith and identity.

The second is the Royal Standard (Lion Rampant) — a bold red lion on a golden background. Unlike the Saltire, this flag is traditionally reserved for royalty and official representatives of the monarch.

Today, the Saltire belongs to everyone — flown proudly as a symbol of Scottish heritage, unity, and pride wherever Scots gather around the world.
