We continue to celebrate National Volunteer Week by highlighting some outstanding volunteers who are involved with ParaFed Canterbury. Our final shout out for the week is Sian Ruth.

Many of you may not know Sian, as she volunteers her time in the background, not looking for any acknowledgement or recognition.

Sian is the Chairperson of ParaFed Canterbury and is one of the driving forces behind our organisation. She joined the Board of ParaFed Canterbury in 2012, having first become involved with ParaFed Canterbury through her daughter’s interest in Para swimming.

Sian is a Chartered Accountant and Authorised Financial Adviser and has an interest in governance and financial management. She volunteers as a Board Member of Paralympics New Zealand, the Chairperson of Disability Sport Aotearoa New Zealand (the ParaFed Network) and also the PNZ Cyril Smith Legacy Fund Committee.

She has a background in sports administration, in particular at club level with the QEII Swim Club, a volunteer position she held for many years.

Thank you Sian and thank you once again to all our volunteers for your support.

We continue to celebrate National Volunteer Week by highlighting some outstanding volunteers who are involved with ParaFed Canterbury.

ParaFed Canterbury is extremely proud of our community and we feel fortunate to have many amazing members involved that want to give back to the organisation.

Whether is it volunteering at sports tournaments, running our sports clubs, teaching swimming lessons, assisting us with presentations, hosting events, taking photos, volunteering on different boards, youth councils and advisory groups, or simply cheering on teammates, thank you to all our members for wanting to give back.

Incredible members. Incredible role models. Incredible people.

Thank you once again to all volunteers for your support.

We continue to celebrate National Volunteer Week by highlighting some outstanding volunteers who are involved with ParaFed Canterbury.

We are lucky to have some individual volunteers who, again and again, give their time to help at different sports, programmes and events.

These are people outside of the usual family and friends. Some start volunteering through university or tertiary education, and most have no initial connection to ParaFed Canterbury.

These volunteers end up supporting us year after year and become a huge part of the ParaFed Canterbury family. Put simply, we could not do what we do without their help and support.

Thank you to these individuals and thank you to all our amazing volunteers.

We continue to celebrate National Volunteer Week by highlighting some outstanding volunteers who are involved with ParaFed Canterbury. Today is Ollie Smith.

Ollie has been one of our most active volunteers across the organisation over the past few years.

He initially completed more than 130 hours of volunteer work with us as part of him studying a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science at the Ara Institute of Canterbury in 2025.

Even after his internship, Ollie continues to assist with our weekly Functional Adaptive Movement (FAM) sessions, volunteers at various sports tournaments and has supported us during the Selwyn Sports Activation Spectacular

Ollie is a member of ParaFed Canterbury and well known to many of our community. He is a competitive Para table tennis player and member of our Academy Programme.

Thank you Ollie and thank you to all our amazing volunteers.

To celebrate National Volunteer Week, we wanted to mention some outstanding volunteers who are involved with ParaFed Canterbury.

First up is our Phil Humphrey's Most Valued Volunteer Award recipient from 2025, Geraldine Rae.

Geraldine's passion and interest in Para sport started when supporting her grandson Josh. She continues to support Josh, and the ParaFed Canterbury members, in all activities and competition.

Geraldine, along with her husband Rob, are the first to register when we call for volunteers and they have assisted at a range of events including wheelchair rugby, boccia, table tennis and the ParaFed Canterbury Games.

Geraldine put her name forward for the Board of ParaFed Canterbury and was elected as a Board member in 2020. She brings with her a wealth of governance and experience that every organisation needs.

As far as volunteers are concerned, Geraldine embodies the ultimate volunteer, who gives back with no fuss or expectations.

The Phil Humphrey's Most Valued Volunteer Award is proudly sponsored by the Wharenui Sports Centre.

Thank you Geraldine and thank you to all our amazing volunteers.

Volunteers play a major role in the success of ParaFed Canterbury.

Today is the start of National Volunteer Week and we would like to take a moment to thank all of the amazing people that volunteer their time to assist our organisation.

To the members, families, coaches, officials and volunteers who assist in the running of our sports and programmes, the students that support us at events each year, our board members who add their knowledge and skills to our governance team, and to our incredible sponsors and supporters who are always there encouraging our athletes and teams (and anyone else we've forgotten) ... a massive THANK YOU from ParaFed Canterbury.

We will highlight a few of these amazing volunteers over the next week, so be sure to check back soon.
