Canterbury Men's Centre

Canterbury Men's Centre Our Mission statement is Happy Healthy Canterbury Men. Quite a large brief but it keeps us out of trouble.

We were established in December 2007 and since then have been working hard to create a useful service for Canterbury men and boys. We support Canterbury Men’s health and well being by:

1) 0ffering drop-in and referral support for men in a crisis or who are looking to expand themselves

2) assessing existing services, identifying the needs of men/boys, and helping organisations in the community to

set up relevant responses

3) acting as a contact place, information portal and referrer for men wanting to access community services

Check out our flyers in the photo tab

Upon careful consideration of a phrase encountered on social media, I have identified a notable distinction between the concepts of “feeling unloved” and “feeling unlovable.”
The former, “feeling unloved,” typically manifests as a transient state of mind that can be promptly reversed by the actions or words of others who express their love and appreciation.
In contrast, “feeling unlovable” originates from within and is a deeply ingrained state of mind.
Carl Jung posits that the sensation of being unlovable can stem from the inability to communicate the truly important aspects of oneself, resulting in a profound sense of isolation even amidst the presence of others.
According to Friedrich Nietzsche, the notion of being “unlovable” is not inherently negative. Nietzsche frequently prioritised self-reliance and individuality over the constant pursuit of external validation. However, I believe this perspective is erroneous, as it can exacerbate the sense of isolation and contribute to the progression of depression.
The ingrained state of mind is particularly evident when individuals experienced neglect or lack of love and nurturing during their early childhood. Consequently, those who have endured trauma from this period often struggle to express self-love, which can manifest in difficulty showing love to others.
How can we alter this mindset? Everyone deserves love. While feeling unlovable is common, it does not reflect reality.
Self-esteem is crucial: Constructing a positive self-image can substantially enhance your perception of lovability.
Be patient with yourself: Altering deeply ingrained beliefs requires time and effort.
