Over Easter Weekend (3-6th April) we took 8 of our Cadets down to Wanaka for Warbirds.

The Friday started off bright and early for us to make it to the show on Friday. While at the Airshow in Wanaka we got the opportunity to see the only flying Black Hawk in New Zealand. We also got to see the 90th Anniversary Spitfire, Roaring 40's Harvard Display team, American Eagles (L-39 4-ship formation display) as well as many other amazing aircraft.

On the Saturday we headed to Arrowtown via the historic Cardrona Hotel where we stopped for a hot drink. We then explored some of the shops in Arrowtown, then headed into Queenstown where all the cadets got to explore while the officers had a mini Golf competition. We then finished the day off with Pizza down at a lake edge with 38 SQN before heading back to camp.

On the Sunday we went to Puzzling World where we spent most of the day going through the illusion rooms and most went through the great maze. What a challenge it is.

Over the summer holidays we had a couple of our NCOs attend courses. We had F/S Mika Cescon and F/S Bradan Foster attend powered flying which is held up in Woodbourne. Congratulations to F/S for going Solo.

The Powered Flying Course is a 10 day course held at RNZAF Base Woodbourne every Summer holidays. Powered is a course where you learn everything you need to know to fly a small aircraft such as a Cessna or a Tomahawk. While Powered Flying is running there is another course at the same time which is Navigation.

National Aviation Course (NAC) is a fantastic opportunity where you learn a lot and get to meet Air Cadets from all around the country.

Since starting back this term we have had a couple of promotions.

A big congratulations to W/O Richard Allen for your promotion to Warrant Officer. Our previous CDTW/O’s leave a legacy of growing from strength to strength, always leading by example. Each NZCF unit can only have one Warrant Officer and CDTW/O Allen is responsible for all of 18SQN's NCO's and Cadet's, ensuring they are maintaining a high standard in all aspects of SQN activities.

A big congratulations to F/S Mika Cescon on your promotion to Flight Sergeant.
