In 2026, Rotary Clubs across Aotearoa New Zealand have committed to collecting 1 million cans of food to support local food banks, as part of their Cans for a Cause appeal. They have chosen to do this in acknowledgement that many families are struggling to put enough food on the table for their whānau, and are in urgent need of support.

The Riccarton Rotary Club approached us to receive and distribute to people in need the 318kg of cans they collected - here's Jeff, their Treasurer, and our storeman Dave with all the cans! New World Ilam generously provided their van to transport the cans, a big thank you to them also - ka mau te wehi.

Rotary Ōtautahi Passport Charitable Trust also got in touch and made a donation from the proceeds of the Cans for a Cause campaign, which will support our continued work to rescue food, feed people, and build community. Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou, Rotary!

Our member Deb Gimblett was also there this morning welcoming Bronte to Rotary. She is a big supporter of our club and it was a pleasure to be there as she was welcomed as the third generation of Barbers to join Rotary. It was definitely an early start but we'll worth. Congratulations to Bronte 💐

I'm not an early morning person but Nick and Liz Courtney joined Bronte Barber at Christchurch Sunrise Rotary to support her in becoming a Rotarian. Bronte now joins her grandfather and father as a 3rd generation Rotarian. Bronte began as (RYE) Rotary Youth Exchange student to Sweden then attended ( RYLA) Rotary Youth Leadership Award and became the Oceania MDIO ( Multi District Organisation) for Rotaract. Brontes enthusiasm for all things Rotary is obvious and we welcome her into our larger Rotary family.
