HUGE BACKGROUND WORK from Al gets kudos!

VOLUNTEER WEEK more power behind the sport ❤️‍🔥 AL CORY- WRIGHT served on the Selection Panel from 2013 until recently, including at least a decade as convenor. The convenor role saw him fielding countless calls from athletes regarding injuries, exams, and other concerns. During his tenure he brought greater rigour to the selection process, among other things proposing that King's Birthday be designated a selection event for Southern Cross, and aligning local grades with Australian grades to streamline selection.
Together with Jean Cory-Wright, who co-managed the Southern Cross team for many years, they championed the expansion to sending two New Zealand teams to Australia, including the introduction of a development team. The pair have also planned and controlled many courses together, and were partnered for the relay when Nationals held in Canterbury in 2025.
Beyond his administrative contributions, Al is a familiar and valued voice at events, where his in -depth knowledge of competitors makes him a quick, insightful commentator.

PHOTOS FROM HoW ORGANISERS & A NEW TROPHY for the women's category complete with 21 years with of winners! It is weird, but we have not had a HoW trophy for women rogainers - but that has now been recognised. Lara Prince went through all the records and back-dated it. It's crazy that it's taken this long, but very cool to finally have it recognised properly. It is noted that Georgia Whitler and Sara Prince are tied for most wins at 7 and Lara Prince is very close behind on 6.
2026 HoW results are all uploaded: https://how.papo.org.nz/event-results/

We would like to give one last huge thanks to our sponsors Further Faster, Kaikoura Adventure Race, CJ's Plants
and the many volunteers who made the event happen.
