Mother’s Day can bring up all sorts of feelings.
For some whānau, it looks like breakfast in bed, handmade cards, flowers, and a slow Sunday together.
For others, it might look nothing like what we imagined.
It might be messy, emotional, quiet, complicated, lonely, or just another day of doing our best while carrying a lot.
At Trailblazers, we know that many of the whānau we walk alongside are facing barriers that others may not always see. Some are navigating big challenges. Some feel isolated from community spaces, groups, activities, or support. Some are simply trying to get through the week.
Our charitable purpose has always been about supporting tamariki, rangatahi, and whānau who may be marginalised or finding participation difficult for any reason — and helping create safe, welcoming spaces where people can belong.
Today is a good day to pause and notice the wins.
The child who came outside.
The teenager who tried.
The parent who kept showing up.
The whānau who made it through another hard week.
The small moment of connection.
The laugh.
The walk.
The start line.
The cuddle at the finish.
The hope that is still there, even when things are hard.
Dr Gabor Maté is often quoted as saying:
“Safety is not the absence of threat, but the presence of connection.”
That sits at the heart of Trailblazers.
We may not be able to remove every challenge, every stress, or every barrier. But we can keep creating places where connection is present. Where whānau feel seen. Where tamariki and rangatahi are supported. Where no one has to feel like they are doing it all alone.
So to all the mums, caregivers, grandmothers, aunties, dads doing the mothering role, and whānau showing up in all the ways that matter — we see you.
Take a moment today to reflect on the wins, no matter how big or small.
There is always hope.
And there is always room for connection.
No family alone. 🌿
