šŸ’« Mission to Space Camp: Day 3/3 šŸ’«

Our final day of the ā€œMission to Aerospaceā€ Camp took things to new heights with an inspiring Mission to Mars focus! The day kicked off with an exploration into Mars research, discussing how studying the Red Planet can support life on Earth and help extend our planet’s resources.

Participants then got hands-on with a Mars robotics build alongside the team from Imagination Station nz, sparking creativity and engineering skills. Next, a visit to the University of Canterbury and the UC Aerospace - University of Canterbury Club introduced our rangatahi to tertiary pathways in aerospace, helping them envision their future careers.

The day ended on an absolute high note with flight training at the Canterbury Aero Club, where students even had the chance to pilot a plane themselves—a thrilling first experience in the cockpit for many!

As we conclude this incredible journey in Ōtautahi Christchurch, we’re proud of the passion, skill, and curiosity our young leaders have shown. Here’s to their bright futures in aerospace

🌌 Mission to Space Camp: Day 2/3 🌌

Day two of the ā€œMission to Aerospaceā€ Camp took our rangatahi even deeper into the wonders of space exploration, with a focus on the Mission to the Moon! The day began with a study of NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administrations Artemis project, exploring the importance of moon exploration, the future of lunar missions and New Zealand's important role in the agreement.

The excitement continued as participants got hands-on with a hot rocket build and launch with Christchurch Rocketeers, honing their technical skills and channelling their creativity and skills into designing, building and watching their rockets soar. The day wrapped up with a fascinating site visit to the Pratt & Whitney (Air New Zealand), where our young explorers gained insights into aerospace engineering and cutting-edge technology in the industry.

With each activity, these future aerospace leaders are building skills, deepening their curiosity, and connecting to potential careers in the field. Stay tuned for the grand finale on Day 3 as we continue this transformative journey in Ōtautahi Christchurch!

✨ Mission to Space Camp: Day 1/3

Day one of the ā€œMission to Aerospaceā€ Camp was an exciting start for our Māori and Pasifika rangatahi and their dedicated educators! Supported by the US Embassy New Zealand, this camp is all about hands-on learning, exploration, and connecting with the future of aerospace.

Yesterdays activities brought participants closer to their aerospace dreams through engaging sessions such as learning about the theory of flight, and the origins of our universe at the Air Force Museum of New Zealand, followed by aerospace industry site visits to Tāwhaki and Air New Zealand maintenance and engineering facility. Each experience is crafted to inspire curiosity, build skills, and forge pathways into the aerospace field.

As we kick start day two, we’re thrilled to see the enthusiasm and talent these young future leaders are bringing to every moment of camp. Stay tuned for updates from Day 2 and 3 as we continue this transformative journey in Ōtautahi Christchurch!

Thanks Air Force Museum of New Zealand for supporting the future of aerospace in NZ!

This week we’ve been lucky enough to be hosting Māori and Pasifika students from all over Aotearoa New Zealand for a Mission to Space Camp.
Funded by the US Embassy, the students have been learning all about many of the different trades that are available in the aerospace industry.
They’ve been learning all about the theory of flight, a mission to Mars, rocketry, robotics and they’re going to get a spin in an aeroplane later in the week with the Canterbury Aero Club.
We hope it will inspire them to think of a future in the industry that contributes so much.
Our thanks to our partners at Spaceward Bound and Aerospace New Zealand for running an amazing week.
But most of all thanks to the students and tutors for the fun you’ve added to the museum – ka rawe!
