**Team Waitikiri Whackers** shared the love this year and played four different courses in one day! 🎉⛳️

Team Captain Steve came up with the idea. “It’s a difficult enough challenge as it is, but I wanted to push the boundaries to make it as difficult as possible.
I lost my father to cancer 3 years ago during the COVID pandemic but was unable to travel back to the UK to see him. I also lost my uncle and cousin earlier so it’s close to home for me.” ❤️

His teammates Nathan, Evan, and Jason, who were completing the challenge for the first time, were happy to go along on what sounded like an awesome day. Thanks for sharing with us team and raising an amazing $6381! 🙌💰

**Here's a summary of the day for all you golfers out there:**

We teed it up at 5:10 in the morning of the 17th December at our home club, Waitikiri Golf Club
The first round finished at 7:25 (2 hours 15 minutes). We ended up running the 13th hole in order to finish on time as we needed to drive 11km to Clearwater Golf Club for an 8:00am tee time.
Clearwater was in stunning condition. Our round was completed by 11:25am (our longest round at 3 hours 25 mins).

Following this, we had to drive 14km to Waimairi Beach Golf Club Inc for a 12:20 tee time. We had to wait for about half an hour to start our round, but then had the course to ourselves and finished at 3:20 (3 hours).

Our final drive was to the beautiful Christchurch Golf Club, 6.3km away. We teed off at 4pm and finished our 72nd hole at 7:40pm, having walked 48,000 steps on the day. 🚶‍♂️🏌️‍♂️

- **Waitikiri:** Nathan 73, Evan 77, Jason 74, Steve 74
- **Clearwater:** Nathan 78, Evan 83, Jason 80, Steve 68
- **Waimairi Beach:** Nathan 75, Evan 77, Jason 78, Steve 71
- **Christchurch:** Nathan 77, Evan 86, Jason 79, Steve 73

**Total:** +16, +36, +24, -1

Steve Moye has said he's excited already for next year and would love to have 50 players involved at Waitikiri Golf Club, where he is the golf pro, for next summer's challenge. 🌟🏌️‍♂️

We cant wait to join you on the course for this !!

Jonty Swain is possibly our youngest Longest Day Golf Challenge participant this year, and he is from North Canterbury 👍⛳

Thanks to the Williams family and the Greendale Golf Sensations team for taking part in the Longest Day Golf Challenge. Your fundraising will help change the future for many New Zealanders. We can’t express our gratitude enough to all those taking part. All money raised goes to transport, accommodation, and other services to support patients and their families through their cancer journey. A portion also goes to cancer research and the Cancer Society is increasing its contribution to research, because we know that’s the only way to reduce the number of people dying prematurely of cancer.

Team Waimak Warriors showed true warrior spirit when they hit the fairways out at Waimakariri Gorge Golf Club late December, hoping their rescheduled day was going to be better weather wise than the original.... alas, it was not! ⛈

Scotts recap: The day was going well until things turned on the 9th hole of the 4th round. The weather finally decided not to play along and the heavens opened. The team, Rob, Paul and I decided to take cover, play cards, have a couple of refreshments 😉 and wait it out. Unfortunately Mother Nature had only just started and the rain proceeded to bucket down, then she chucked in some lightning. All of a sudden there was a loud bang and we realised the clubhouse and a large tree next to the clubhouse had been hit. A quick look in the office and we discovered the internet modem was a dead duck, the lightning had hit the dish on the roof and travelled down via the cable to the modem, blackened cable ends and the main connection blown apart were easy to see. Undeterred we packed up and went down to Rangiora Golf Club and finished our final 9 holes. This had certainly made this The Longest Day on a golf course that we had ever had. Here’s looking forward to next year.

Four rounds of golf - that’s 72 holes - in one day to raise funds for the Cancer Society

Team Muppets – Hillary O’Connor, Emma Lewis, Anita Bateman and Louise Hegan - had already raised $4500 for cancer by midday with more still to come. The team took to Russley Golf course just after 5.30am as part of The Longest Day Golf challenge and expect to have finished their 72 holes by 6pm. It’s the teams first time undertaking the challenge, but they think they’ll be doing it again. Why – because it’s a great cause and they love golf.

They all have lost people they care about to cancer including some of their Russley Golf Club members.

It was great to hear from the club officials that they distribute sunscreen to players during the day and that sales of their wide brim hats is on the rise. Thank you everyone.
