For many years, Alzheimerโ€™s South Canterbury has been supporting people living with dementia, their families and whฤnau across the region.

From 1 November 2026, Alzheimerโ€™s South Canterbury will become part of Dementia Canterbury.

While the name and organisational structure will change, what matters most will remain at the heart of what we do - people:

- People living with dementia.
- Families and whฤnau navigating a new diagnosis.
- Carers who need support.
- Communities learning more about dementia.
- And everyone who deserves to feel informed, supported and connected.

By joining together, we have an opportunity to strengthen dementia support across the wider Canterbury region, bringing our experience and resources together and reaching more people who need us.

Weโ€™re excited about what the future holds - and grateful to everyone who has helped make dementia support in South Canterbury what it is today.

One organisation. One shared purpose. Stronger together. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’œ Earlier support should be available to everyone. Over 70,000 New Zealanders currently live with dementia | mate wareware every day, and that number is growing.

People living with dementia and their whฤnau need timely information, appropriate support and services they can access in their communities.

This World Alzheimerโ€™s Month, weโ€™re backing action that strengthens earlier diagnosis, community-based support and better outcomes across Aotearoa.

๐ŸŒฟ A diagnosis of dementia doesnโ€™t mean giving up the things you enjoy.

Living with Alzheimerโ€™s or another form of dementia can bring changes and challenges โ€“ but there can still be plenty of opportunities for connection, purpose and enjoyment.

Staying socially, physically and mentally active can help people maintain their abilities and confidence.

Whether itโ€™s gardening, walking, music, art, meeting friends or simply continuing with everyday routines, doing the things that bring meaning and enjoyment matters.
