Our dear Maude, one of our elderly goats spending the day in her new hut and why wouldn't you when you get room service throughout the day .
We recently moved Maude into her own paddock as it's easier to provide her extra care and support without the rest of the herd pushing in .

Hi folks ,
We have been contacted if we could help re home Bramble, Thistle and Nettle as their current carers circumstances have changed. Three girls , who have always been together and are very friendly, aged 6-7 years . They are located in Hastings, please get in touch if you are interested and we can go from there. Only caring, lifelong free range homes where they will have everything they need to be happy.

Below is an excerpt from the latest report from the New Zealand Animal Law Association , detailing the failures of animal protection in this country by inadequate laws , government departments and lack of enforcement. It is compelling and interesting reading and covers many issues . It is also delves into the DOC organised goat hunts .
Some balance and compassion is needed , it's concerning to see exaggerated claims concerning feral goats circulating, one such claim that goats can consume 10% of their body weight in one sitting is simply not true .
I care about the native flora and fauna of this country as well but is the continued use of lethal force , sometimes spurious information and cruelty out of sight really the way .

"A goat hunting competition run by DOC provides a current example to consider. Entrants are required to submit
goat tails or heads in return for the chance to win prizes.355 The rules require these body parts to be taken “legally,
recreationally, and humanely”, and if there is any eligibility doubt, the goat’s head or tail can be refused.356 A
cursory look at this competition immediately raises various goat welfare concerns"

You can read the report below.

Hi supporters ,

We have these wee double sided leaflets fresh off the press , designed to educate , advocate and hopefully dissuade anyone from subjecting anymore goats to prolonged tethering.
If you would like to help get them out there in vet clinics , animal welfare op shops , rural supply stores , councils etc then please get in touch and I will send you some .

Cruelty on display ~Forgotten and misunderstood

While a majority of people these days accept tethering a goat alone indefinitely is cruel and outdated a minority continue to subject these sentient animals to an existence on the end of a chain . This practice is so contrary to good welfare and care of these animals, placing them in vulnerable positions, lack of proper and fresh feed ( being browsers they require a wide variety of plant material to maintain health ) , ill thrift due to being expected to chew grass right down is also unnatural for them , worm burdens ,long boring days devoid of any company so very wrong for such a social herd animal , water is most always lacking in these cases .
Goats deserve and need better legal protection . A friendly , social intelligent animal that bonds with humans , akin to dogs with hooves . Animal Welfare laws and regulations must be consistent for all species , it's not good practice to have one species given protection from indefinite tethering/ chaining and leaving other species out when they all suffer the same , all are sentient. Enforcement of what weak laws there are is also lacking , it's not good enough to send inspectors to these complaints that don't have knowledge of goats or that don't check their body conditions and hooves , that is doing them a disservice.
Tethered goats cannot display normal patterns of behavior at all and in many instances it's just reckless ill treatment of an animal.
We will continue to advocate for them and push for this outdated cruelty to be consigned to history once and for all .
