South Mole Community Planting Day cancelled

Unfortunately, the weather isn’t playing ball this weekend, so we’ve made the decision to cancel Sunday’s South Mole Community Planting Day.

We’re really disappointed, especially after such a great response from our community, but the safety and comfort of everyone involved comes first.

A huge thank you to everyone who registered and offered to lend a hand. We really appreciate your willingness to get involved and help care for our coastline and awa.

The restoration mahi will continue, and we’ll keep sharing the progress with you.

Progress Castlecliff Inc update: Committee Changes
Terry Sarten was nominated and selected by the committee as the new Chair of Progress Castlecliff Inc. You can contact Progress Castlecliff Chair Terry Sarten ([email protected]) The previous Chair James Barron has stepped back from that role to be Secretary through till the September AGM.
Progress Castlecliff is a registered charity that can provide a structure to support the community in the development of projects for Te Kaikai-o-Kupe / Castlecliff our unique seaside suburb.
The Progress Castlecliff committee are keen to highlight opportunities and ways to be involved with Progress Castlecliff in the heart of Te Kaihau-o-Kupe / Castlecliff.
Opportunity: Volunteer at the Castlecliff Library & Community Hub - join the library volunteer team. The library is a satellite for the main Davis Library. We can request books from the Davis for you and you can drop them back to us saving a trip into town. Note to community groups - outside Castlecliff library hours the space is free and can be booked to use for your meetings.
The Duncan Pavilion rejuvenation: Following the 2025 listing as a class A Heritage Building its future is assured and basic maintenance is now a given. A building maintenance and conservation report is being prepared that will place The Duncan Pavilion in a strong position for funding. The current levels of use of The Duncan Pavilion not only prove its value but also contribute funds towards the rejuvenation work.
Opportunity: Can you contribute your project management, fundraising, design skills and vision to deliver rejuvenation for this iconic Castlecliff building. (The Pavilion turns 60 in 2027)

Power Up the Park. The Whanganui District Council year 3 of the 2024 LTP is finally here and just under $50,000 is available to Progress Castlecliff to put lighting into Castlecliff Domain. Opportunity: do you have construction skills and local contacts to deliver power into the park. Opportunity: Our basketball court still looks great but needs a refresh. Volunteer to coordinate a team to do to painting. Rangi Tukutuku is the locally given name of a Kāpehu Whetū or star compass. Hapu lead this project has artwork funding, vision, carvers and materials available. Progress Castlecliff has matching funding available to support the anticipated community art funding.
Opportunity: Contribute skills and energy to this visionary project and work with the Project Navigator Toiora.
Loulou Krebs who recently stepping down from the committee and her role as chair of the Duncan Pavilion Operations sub-committee says” Almost two years on, being involved with Progress Castlecliff has been a privilege, especially in the role of Duncan Booking Officer where we have achieved an amazing turnaround that more than justifies the mahi that's gone into it and has seen its future assured! The paradox is that experience, confidence and relationships that I've gained from being on Progress Castlecliff have in no small part helped me get my dream role at UCoL and so led to the decision to resign to put all my effort into the UCoL role”.

Been itching to find out what the North Mole carpark area could look like?

Come and join us this Sunday, 7 June to meet the people behind the project, check out the concept plans, and hear more about the vision for the area.
