Salvation Army Community Ministry update for August and September up to 15/09

We hope that you are all well and have been able to dodge these spring bugs around, if not we hope that you are making a quick recovery.

As spring has sprung, we are looking at setting up some tub gardens that we can help our food bank families out with some fresh produce. Annette and the Junior Soldiers are also helping with this project. We have a had Daron coming down when he has spare time to get this started and prep the containers, make cover to keep the birds and hopefully bugs etc away.

The children have also started to plant and care for a garden of site at a family member of Annettes.

We have been extremely lucky to have the support of the children along with Daron and Annettes Family to get started. So far, we have had minimal costs for this due to donations. We are currently looking for some more lengths of wood to be able to finish the frames for the netting. Please if you have any spare wood at home or know anyone and wondering what to do with them, we would appreciate your donation.

Food Bank, we have been extremely lucky with donations over the past 6 months to help keep us support our community. We are still having to spend $300 to $700 a week to keep the shelves fill. We are very appreciative of the donations we receive from our community and along with the contracts we hold with Woolworth, New World, Fresh Choice, and BP.

For the month of August, we gave out just under 100 food parcels, which is for the 17 days of the month that we operate. We have supplied showers for 26 homeless, over the month. This involves a bit of work for us, but we are only too happy to help them out. Our washing machine is on most days washing the shower towels along with tea towels etc that are used here.

To the 15/09 we have given out 78 Food parcels, and the shower has been used 27 times that is only 11 days of being open. As people are trying to make ends meet, we expect this to continue through this economic climate.

Christmas Cheer, is now into the swing of planning for this and very shortly we will be advertising this on face book request donations etc. We are also expecting a rise in numbers for this event as well. As Annette is reminding us that there is only approx. 99 left until the festive season.

Well wishing you all the best for the rest of the spring period and hoping our weather improves well into summer.
Julieanne and Annette

Hi neighbours - We're almost there! We've nearly finished delivering First Aid training to more than 200 local community members, either free of charge for volunteers or at a heavily subsidised rate.

A huge thank you to the Cambridge Community Board for making our subsidy possible. We'd also like to give a special shout out to Cambridge Salvation Army, who continue to open their doors to the community time and time again. Their generous sharing of their Williamson Street hall has provided a welcoming space for our classes and played an important part in helping us reach more people with these life-saving skills. They are always willing to support community initiatives, and their commitment to creating a place where people can connect, learn and support one another is something we greatly value.

Together, we're building a safer, more resilient Cambridge.
