Sorry, not a win-win...but a win-win-win...🦌=πŸ₯©πŸ”πŸŒ

Made possible by NZDA members from Marlborough, Nelson, Wellington, Golden Bay, West Coast, and North Canterbury Branches.

Hunters, conservation and the community have all come out on top after a managed hunt resulted in 192 kg of venison donated to a Blenheim foodbank.

28/05/2026

Families in our community set to benefit from 100kg of mince, 68 kg of sausages and 24kg of meat patties - over 1,000 servings of quality wild meat protein thanks to the hunting skills of NZDA - Marlborough and Blenheim Lions covering the processing costs. Meat donated to the Marlborough Community Food Bank.

Great trip, Great cause, oh and Great pic too.

We were aware this was coming. Ospri will be using Deer Repellent Prodeer across the entire area.

Only 12 sleeps to opening of the game bird season!
And it's only 30 sleeps to the close-off for the Hard Yards Hunt applications. (Email me if you need an application).
Oh, the pressure!
I had an email from Sawland Environmental Ltd about the small 1080 drop up the Severn for possum control due to be done in May. In one place it mentioned there was deer repellent to be added whereas another place it was not mentioned.
So I emailed them for clarification. Their response...

Good afternoon Mike
Thanks for your email. To confirm, all bait for the prefeed and toxin phases of the operation will contain deer repellent, as agreed during consultation between OSPRI and NZDA.
Additionally, DOC separately advised hunting permit holders of the impending operation a few weeks ago.

So, while the timing is not ideal it is what it is and we work around it. Map attached.
Remember, NO comments re the use of 1080, either for or against, as this page is NOT the place to do that.

Hot barrels to all for their opening weekend.
I'm off to Cheviot again to hunt with the same mate/s that I have done for over 40 years now. Yes, there will be a wee whiskey consumed and lots of s**t talked - but who would have that any other way?
And yes, the whiskey will be brought out well after the guns are locked away. We have never had or allowed any alcohol in or near our maimai and nor will we ever.
I am not a teetotaller but I fear for those who do allow even a small tot of their favourite poison in their maimais.
Cheers to all, Mike.

Members of Marlborough NZDA are heading into areas of Ferny Gair and Glazebrook Conservation Areas 13-15 March for our first of 3 planned fly-in ungulate control operations this year in the South Marlborough conservancy.

Carried out under an MOU with Department of Conservation South Marlborough. We have been doing this work since 2010.

Additional work will be cleaning huts, noting wilding pines locations, and generally doing the work of real conservationists in NZ.

Photos are from a previous operation. Good luck team.πŸ–πŸ¦ŒπŸ

Teetotal sighting in Range near St Arnaud. 1hr drive from Blenheim. Call in to the Lake Roititi/St Arnaud DoC office first as you need to fill in a form for permission, but easy as. Worth a look for those that don't have a range or friendly landowner to go to.
