🟣🟡🔴New members to the team!🔴🟡🟣

On Saturday, we had four candidates attend their exam at Ruakaka.

Leia and Kara both passed their Surf Lifeguard Award, Jody and Rochelle both passed their Patrol Support Award!

It’s great to see Junior Surf parents come through and get qualified, hopefully it encourages more of you out there to get involved! 🌊☀️

Surf Life Saving Baylys Beach would like to acknowledge the lifeguards, FENZ (TK & Dargaville), Hato Hone St John, Police and members of the public who responded to an incident at Glinks Gully yesterday.

🟡🔴

At approximately 7pm Police informed Surf Life Saving of two people caught in a rip, 300m north of the access way at Glinks Gully, about 17km south of the Baylys Beach patrolled area. Three surf lifeguards from the Paid Lifeguard Service responded first with an IRB, supported by the Baylys Beach Search & Rescue squad with a Rescue Water Craft (Jetski). They located both people, who were in the water and unresponsive. They returned them to the beach to commence CPR. Unfortunately, resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.

The team at Surf Life Saving Baylys Beach extends its heartfelt condolences to the whānau and friends of the victims. It also commends the efforts of the surf lifeguards involved and has offered support services to them.

Local iwi have placed a rāhui on the area, until 7pm Monday 5 January.

Up to date information on surf lifesaving patrols and beach conditions is available on safeswim.org.nz

First volunteer patrol for the season, joined by our rookies Sula, Skyla & Jude. Our new tower making it easier to learn about spotting hazards and keeping an eye on everyone enjoying the warmer weather. A friendly reminder that the softer sand has been getting quite hot so protect your young ones & pets feet please! Lifeguards will be back to patrol next weekend 12-5pm 😊
