A few hours of your time could make a big difference in a young person’s life.

The Family Works Buddy Programme is looking for caring adults to become positive role models for children aged 5–12 years.
Adult Buddies spend 2–3 hours once a week or fortnight with their Young Buddy — talking, having fun and enjoying everyday activities together. Volunteers are carefully selected, trained and supported throughout the programme. Presbyterian Support Otago

Could your organisation benefit from extra support to grow its capability?

The General Capability Fund is open to grassroots clubs, community groups and not-for-profits across Otago, with funding of up to $5,000 available.

Funding can support things such as staff and volunteer training, developing a strategic or business plan, getting expert advice, or improving your organisation’s systems and processes.

Love the outdoors and want to make a difference

Forest & Bird South Otago is looking for volunteers to get involved in local conservation projects Join a passionate team working to protect and restore the unique biodiversity of South Otago. Forest & Bird South Otago is involved in hands-on conservation mahi across The Catlins. Whether you're into digging, trapping, planting, or promoting environmental action, there is something here for you. There is also the opportunity to help restore the Long Yellow Ribbon, a stretch of native plating near the Dutton's Bridge pull-off on the Owaka Highway, this happens monthly, times and activities below.

Volunteers play a vital role in restoring native habitats, caring for local flora, and protecting wildlife in the stunning Catlins region.

Activities may include:

Pest control: Track predators and maintain predator traps in order to protect native species
Habitat restoration: Assist with regular w**d control and planting days at key sites like Otanomomo Scientific Reserve and Dutton’s Bridge (Owaka River)
Native plant nursery work: Propagate and care for 2000+ plants a year
Wildlife monitoring & education: Share knowledge and provide support to community and youth groups
Creative or strategic support: Design resources, manage social media, and generally stand up for nature.

Would you, your employees, or members of their families benefit from improving their English language skills?
We’re currently gathering expressions of interest to better understand the need for English lessons within the Clutha District.
Whether it’s improving everyday conversations, building confidence in the workplace, or feeling more connected within the community, stronger English skills can make a real difference.
We’d particularly love to hear from local employers who have employees who could benefit from additional English support, as well as their family members who may be new to the district.

Holmdene Residential Home is looking for friendly, caring volunteers who would enjoy spending a little time supporting and connecting with their residents.

Supporting older persons in a simple, practical way is a wonderfully rewarding experience. Sharing just a little bit of your time can really make their day, and it might just make yours too. Be prepared for 'helper's high' as your volunteering can lead to a rush of euphoria and the release of endorphins!

Opportunities are available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, as well as Saturday mornings, depending on the activity.
