It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the passing of John Jeffares, one of the much-loved owners of the Awakino Hotel and a true friend to the Tainui Pig Hunting Club.
John was more than a publican to us — he was part of our extended hunting family. His hospitality, warmth, and good humour made the Awakino Hotel a second home for many of us over the years.John always made everyone feel welcome.
On behalf of all the members of the Tainui Pig Hunting Club, we send our deepest condolences to John’s family, friends, and everyone at the Awakino Hotel. His friendship and spirit will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Rest easy, John — you’ve left a mark on us all.

The Awakino Hotel is CLOSED on SUNDAY 2 NOVEMBER.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of John Jeffares loved father of Sean, James, and Sophie, and Poppa to young Hazel and Caleb. A much-loved brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

We invite all who knew John and wish to celebrate his life to join us for a memorial service at the Awakino Hotel at 1 pm on Sunday, 2 November. Please stay to share food, stories, and memories of a life well lived.

From 5 pm onwards, the gathering will continue privately for family and close friends. r
