Right now in Waikato, there are mokopuna who need a safe place to land - a home where they can feel calm, cared for, and understood during uncertain moments. ❤️‍🩹

Emergency foster carers step in when it matters most. It might be short notice. It might be for a short time. But the impact you have can last a lifetime.

You don’t need to be perfect - just present, steady, and willing to offer aroha when it’s needed most.

If you have a spare room, resilience, and a heart to help, you could make all the difference.

Kia ora koutou 👋

My name is Ardra Justin, and I am a social worker based in Ōtautahi Christchurch, originally from India with a background in community-based practice.

My role focused on supporting communities through development projects funded by corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, with a strong emphasis on advocacy and community development. I worked with a wide range of population groups, including children and young people, senior citizens, migrants, women affected by family violence, people living with disabilities, and individuals experiencing hardship. A key part of my work involved identifying gaps in services and working collaboratively with communities and stakeholders to create sustainable solutions.

As I begin my journey with Key Assets, I bring my previous experience while continuing to learn and grow as a practitioner, with a strong focus on helping people to help themselves.

We look forward to welcoming Ardra to the Key Assets whānau supporting tamariki, rangatahi, and whānau in our communities.

Recently we hosted the first module of our Using Play trainings, focussing on Addressing Anxiety. Together with our friends over at Heartsync NZ. We had a wonderful mix of new and experienced mātua whāngai, youth workers, and social workers, all actively engaged and getting hands‑on with play‑based learning.

Real‑life case studies drawn from the lived experiences of our mātua whāngai currently caring for mokopuna helped bring the learning to life:

🗣️ “The case studies and examples shared were very helpful.”

🗣️ “This helped me understand the role of play on the brain and how it helps with anxiety - very enlightening.”

Participants took home a reflection booklet and a kete of play resources to begin playing straight away with their mokopuna. A meaningful and energising start to module one of four 🌱

Taking a quiet moment this morning to remember and give thanks. There is something timeless about a hot cup of coffee and a tray of Anzac biscuits - a small way to honour the grit and spirit of those who served. 🇳🇿🇦🇺

Meet Hima!

We’re excited to welcome Hima to our Key Assets whānau!

Originally from India, Hima brings a deep passion for supporting people and creating positive change in the community. Her journey began in education as a lecturer, where she saw how knowledge can empower people and open new opportunities. Inspired to make an even greater impact, she moved into social work to work more closely with individuals and families.

Hima believes social work is about walking alongside people, listening to their stories, and helping them discover their strengths.

We’re thrilled to have Hima on board and can’t wait to see the impact she’ll make for the children, families and carers we support. 🩵🩷

Many people think fostering means making a long-term commitment, but there are actually several ways you can support a young person in care.

Some carers provide emergency care, offering a safe place for a child at short notice when they need it most. Others offer respite care, giving regular foster carers a short break while ensuring children continue to feel supported and cared for.

There are also short-term and long-term placements, depending on the needs of each child. No matter the type of care, every foster carer plays an important role in helping tamariki feel safe, supported and valued. 💛

Curious about fostering with Key Assets? We’d love to start the conversation.

When a child experiences safety and consistency, everything changes - confidence grows, trust builds, futures open up.

Our foster carers come from diverse backgrounds, but they share one powerful purpose: a commitment to standing beside rangatahi and mokopuna when they need it most.

With the right support and training, you can make a life-changing impact. Keen to be apart of this? Let's chat.

Welcome to the whānau, Suraj! 👋🏻

We’re delighted to introduce our new team member to the Key Assets crew, one of our compassionate social workers (Kaiatawhai) whose journey and values deeply align with our kaupapa.

Originally from India, Suraj was raised in a family where kindness and compassion were a way of life. Now living in Aotearoa, he feels a strong connection to the Māori principles of manaakitanga and whanaungatanga - caring for others and building genuine relationships.

Guided by empathy, sincerity, and respect, Suraj approaches social work not just as a profession, but as a reflection of who he is. He believes that even small acts of compassion can create lasting change - a belief that continues to guide his work every day.

We love having you onboard, Suraj!!!!!
