Gulf Harbour Country Club – Next Steps
Gulf Harbour Community Trustee Company (GHCTC – the Trust) releases January 21st LiveStream Update.
The four directors of the GHCTC alongside Phil Wilson, CEO of Auckland Council, presented a LiveStream update to the community on 21 January 2026 to advise of their ‘Plan A’ which has all the building blocks for a workable solution for the future of the Gulf Harbour Country Club (GHCC).
The LiveStream is now available to view on YouTube. The link for this is provided at the end of this release.
In this comprehensive YouTube update the four directors of the GHCTC, Duncan Millar, Chris Geyde, Tony Kortegast and Tanya Rainey cover the following;
1. The formation in October 2024 of the GHCT #1 Trust – the Maintenance Trust – which helps maintain the country club land,
2. The formation in April 2025 of the GHCT #2 – the Action Trust – which has been exploring options for the last 12 months to resolve the stalemate of the GHCC land,
3. The legal implications of the stalemate with 1543 Private Capital and Long River (Greg Olliver),
4. Options to get us out of the stalemate,
5. Negotiations to obtain the funding to achieve all of the Trust’s strategic objectives are well advanced with 3rd parties and are supported by Auckland Council at both official’s and elected member’s level,
6. The Trust’s collaboration with a leading New Zealand golf design expert to find ways to modernise and redesign the golf course to be appealing to all levels of golfers, include other public amenities, and reduce overall future maintenance costs,
7. Any golf course remediation will include engagement with other stakeholders to revegetate areas of the course with native planting in keeping with the Whangaparaoa Peninsula green initiatives,
8. The Auckland Council’s support of the Trust’s plan for the community to own a controlling stake in the GHCC land in perpetuity, and of upholding the 999- year encumbrance,
9. The directors emphasised that whatever is created MUST offer substantial local community amenities that are easily accessible to the community,
10. The desire to hold smaller community meetings over the next few months to hear ideas from the public about the next steps.
