Han Sa Mo is an independent group for New Zealanders or people living in New Zealand from all social and cultural backgrounds who love Korea and its culture. Han Sa Mo consists of a youth group (age 13-18) and adult group (over 18 years), founded by April Hyeon Joo Hwang and her students in 18 October 2014. April Hyeon Joo Hwang Han Sa Mo is like a newly hatched chick that has been nurtured and cared for over 10 years. April, who came to New Zealand in 2001, has been teaching Korean to New Zealanders and Korean students living in New Zealand. She has special attachment to Han Sa Mo, as it provides an opportunity to continue teaching students who has learnt Korean in intermediate school but cannot continue to study as Korean is rarely taught in college or grammar schools. It also provides an opportunity to promote Korean language learning and culture experience to adults learners as well. Communication among members is mediated through Han Sa Mo’s official page, but most members are learning or have learnt Korean from April, so they are in contact as often as once a week or at least once a month.
한사모는 한국을 사랑하는 뉴질랜드 사람들에게 한국어와 한국 문화 체험의 기회를 주기 위해 설립된 독립적인 단체입니다. 한사모는 한국어 교사 '황 현 주' (April Hwang)와 그녀의 학생들에 의해 창설되었으며 학생부(13세 ~ 18세 미만) 와 성인부(18세 이상) 두 그룹으로 구성되어 있습니다.한사모 멤버는 벌써 50명에 달하며 회원 수는 점점 더 늘어나고 있습니다.
한사모는 한국어 교사 April Hwang 이 가슴 속에 10년 넘게 품고 있다가 드디어 부화 시킨 병아리 같은 단체입니다.
2001년 뉴질랜드로 이민 온 이후부터 계속, 현지 한국인들과 뉴질랜드에 살고 있는 다민족 학생 및 성인들에게 한국어와 한국 문화, 한국역사 등을 가르쳐 온 교사 April 은 이 한사모 그룹에 특별히 애착이 큽니다. 중학교 때 그녀에게서 한국어를 배운 학생들이 제법 있지만 한국어 과목을 개설한 고등학교 거의 전무한 상황이었기에, 한국어 학습의 단절을 막기 위한 '고심의 결과물이기 때문입니다.
