This weekend, five of our awesome volunteers completed the final bits of their Deckhand module after two full days of practical, on-the-water training.

The weekend was packed with towing and barging exercises, victim recovery scenarios, helming practice, night navigation, and plenty of opportunities to put their skills into practice.

A huge congratulations to all five on achieving this milestone in their Coastguard journey. It’s been great to watch their progress over the past few months, and we look forward to seeing them continue developing as they move into the next stage of their training! 💙🧡

Two weeks ago, we were very fortunate to play a part in the Women in SAR training weekend held here in Auckland.

Bringing together women from across New Zealand, the weekend focused on building skills, confidence, leadership and connections within the SAR community. It was inspiring to see volunteers challenge themselves, learn from one another and create lasting networks across the sector.

Seeing so many capable and passionate women come together over the weekend was a powerful reminder of the value that diverse crews bring to Search and Rescue. With applications for our next Auckland Coastguard volunteer intake remaining open until Sunday, we hope it encourages others who may be considering volunteering to take the leap and get involved.

We're recruiting again!

Auckland Coastguard is looking for new volunteers to join our crew and help save lives on the water. 🌊

Whether you’re experienced on the water or completely new to Coastguard, we provide the training and support to help you become part of our operational team. From search and rescue callouts to training nights and teamwork - no two days are ever the same.

We’re looking for people who are team players, keen to learn, calm under pressure and ready to give back to the community.

Some minimum requirements include:
• Being able to swim
• A reasonable level of fitness
• Good hearing and English communication skills
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
• Passing a Police Vetting Check before training begins
• Being a Permanent Resident or Citizen

As New Zealand’s busiest Coastguard unit, our volunteers respond to hundreds of incidents every year across the Hauraki Gulf and beyond - and we couldn’t do it without our incredible people.

If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, now’s the time!
