"WAS IT A DOG?" stopping the car, they were in shock.

The woman who found west Auckland 2-year-old Willow on Sunday has spoken for the first time about what actually happened to the toddler.

“I waited there on the corner of Universal Drive, thinking the parent or carer might come to find her – but no one came.”

“For a second I thought I’d run something over, but we could see it was a little child. I just ran to her,” the grandmother said, tears in her eyes.

Vehicle stolen with two-month-old inside.

A two-month-old baby has been found and reunited with its parents after it was in the back of a van stolen by a thief in a West Auckland suburb today.

The van was stolen from Roberts Road in Te Atatū South at about 12.51pm.

The van was found with the child inside and was reunited with the family. The offender is still on the run.

Westside community isolated after temporary internet cables cut.

An isolated West Auckland community has been left unconnected again after having the temporary internet cables cut, less than 48 hours after it was restored after Cyclone Gabrielle.

Owen Milburn, lives in Henderson Valley, which was cut off for three days due to road slippages, power lines and trees.

Milburn was without power for six days and internet was only restored on Friday afternoon.

By early Sunday morning the temporary fibre and copper cables laid by Chorus had been cut, leaving the community unconnected once more.

“It’s cut off all of Mountain Rd and has had an effect as people are going to be unable to work from home now,” Milburn said.

The commute is additionally long due to road closures and only one road in and out of the area, he said.

“It’s just bizzare and it stops people having voice and broadband service.”

“We’re so vulnerable up here,” Milburn said.

Milburn said they couldn’t just run nighttime patrols along the road to protect the cables.

Chorus has been contacted for comment.

❗ How to place sandbags :

For stability, sandbags can be placed up to three bags high.
◾ Place the first row of sandbags lengthwise and flat to the ground, butting each end to the next, folding the end of the sandbag underneath.

◾ Stamp them into place to remove air pockets.
◾ If using two or more layers of sandbags, stagger the joints as you place them (like a brick wall), compacting each one as you go.
◾ If you are using a plastic sheet, place it in front of the sandbags, between them and the water, then weigh down the bottom and top with extra sandbags.

A man who helped a truck driver out of his vehicle after it crashed into a house said it was really lucky that nobody was seriously injured.

The crash happened on Hobsonville Rd in West Auckland around 3pm.

Father and a daughter are dead, including the family dog and police have taken one man into custody after a shooting in West Auckland today.

Police said two bodies were found when they arrived at a property in Glendene about 3pm. The victims are known to each other.

Residents on Barrys Rd described the incident, they heard gunfire, and a man and a woman screaming.

A woman has been shot dead tonight in West Auckland.

Police have taken one person into custody following a fi****ms incident in Henderson.

"Police were alerted to reports of a firearm being discharged at an address on Newington Rd shortly before 9pm," a police spokeswoman said.

"On arrival, a woman was located with critical injuries. Immediate first aid was provided however she sadly died at the scene."
