Orange Order New Zealand

Orange Order New Zealand The Orange Institution in New Zealand http://orangeorder.org.nz its about friendship, fellowship and celebrating the 12th July in New Zealand style.

Welcome to our Facebook site and we hope that whether you are a current member of any Orange Lodge or have just discovered this website for the first time and know nothing about the Orange Order that you take some time to look through this site to see what we stand for and what our community is about. It was through immigration that the Orange Institution was introduced to New Zealand in the 1840′

s and by the late 1860′s it had grown to such an extent that the Grand Lodge of New Zealand was born. New Zealand has had mixed membership lodges for over 50 years, gender has not been a disqualifier for any office or responsibility.

Bryan Smith presented with Grand Lodge Meritorious Service Certificate and Jewel for 60 years of service!

Worshipful Brother Bryan Smith joined the Loyal Orange Institution in Winton in 1966. He has been a loyal and steadfast member, having gone through the chairs of his primary Lodge. He served as District Master of the Southern District before it amalgamated with Canterbury to become the South Island District.

Bryan has served 20 years on Grand Lodge, with several terms as Grand Director of Ceremonies, Grand Deacon and Grand Inner Guard.

Grand Master Sheryll Rodgers commented that "It is my privilege to present to you the Grand Lodge Meritorious Service Certificate and Jewel and thank you for your work over many years."

Dear Sisters and Brethren,

It is with deep regret that we advise that Jean Ruddenklau has passed away on Sunday 25th January 2026.

Worshipful Sister Jean came from a long line of Orangewomen and had been a very active member in the Canterbury region all her life. She had held rank in most levels of the Orange Order but will be particularly remembered for her paintings, articles and letters sent all around the world from HM Queen Elizabeth II to politicians and magazine editors, especially to do with cricket, as well as to the members of the Orange Order.

Latterly she had been in a nursing home but her enthusiasm was not diminished. Sis Jean will be missed especially among those who knew her well.

Kind regards
M W Bro Rod Biel, PGM

MESSAGE FROM THE GRAND MASTER

It is with great sadness we received over the weekend the news of the passing of Most Worshipful Reverend Bro. Martin Smyth,
who was a past Imperial Grandmaster, a past Imperial President, & a past Grandmaster of Ireland. I had the honour of meeting him twice, once here in New Zealand & also in Glasgow. He was a true gentleman.
Our sincere sympathy goes to his family & friends as they mourn his passing. May the Lord comfort you in the days & weeks ahead.

Sheryll Rodgers
Grand Master
