Pacifica Arts Centre

Pacifica Arts Centre Home Of The Pacifica Mamas & Pacifica Experience

The Pacifica Arts Centre is the realisation of supreme vision and hard work; The centre has grown from the energy of a few passionate and committed people; the active support of the Auckland Council and The Pacifica Mamas. The latter has become the heart and soul of this space, taking weaving classes, showing school children and adults how to make Pacific arts and creating a studio space for selling and showcasing art pieces.

Welcome Prime Minister Hon. Matthew Wale 🇸🇧

Last night we joined our Solomon Islands community to welcome Prime Minister Matthew Wale and his delegation to Aotearoa ✨

The Prime Minister shared reflections on the new Government’s priorities and aspirations before opening the floor for questions and kōrero with the community. The evening marked a special start to the Prime Minister's visit to Aotearoa

Tagio tumas to the Solomon Islands Auckland Wantok Association (SIAWA) for your warm hospitality and a beautiful evening of community connection 💚

We were honoured to be invited and to capture a few special moments from the evening

Moanaroa Solomon Islands is a kaupapa focused on strengthening our connections, knowledge and relationships across the Solomon Islands 🇸🇧

Our team recently travelled to Honiara, taking time to kōrero, join workshops and share in presentations with artists, knowledge-holders and arts and cultural organisations. We’ve returned with full hearts and a deeper understanding to help shape our work with cultural care and reciprocity for both Aotearoa and the Solomon Islands. While we’re back on home shores, the kōrero continues as we grow these relationships and look ahead to future collaborations

Here are just few moments from the journey - a small glimpse of the people, creativity and culture that welcomed us. We look forward to sharing even more photos in the coming weeks. Watch this space!

Tagio tumas to Pacific Connections - Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Auckland for their incredible support of this first phase of the project, and to the New Zealand High Commission- Honiara, Solomon Islands for their support and manaakitanga on the ground. We also acknowledge and give thanks to the artists and organisations who opened their doors and shared so generously, including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Solomon Islands, Solomon Islands National Art Gallery, Solomon Islands National Museum, Doreen Kuper, and the Honiara Artists Collective

It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved Mama Soia Tatu 🕊️

Mama Soia was a master Niuean artist, knowledge-holder, and a cherished member of the Pacifica Mamas. Her intricate woven and crochet creations have been exhibited across Aotearoa and internationally, sharing the stories of her family and Niuean culture wherever they were seen. She was also a gifted teacher and mentor, playing a leading role in delivering our school education programmes to thousands of students over the years

Her contribution to the arts and community has been widely recognised through many awards and opportunities — including the Creative New Zealand Pacific Heritage Arts Award, and being selected to undertake the Government House Matairangi Mahi Toi Arts Residency alongside the Pacifica Mamas

Our community will miss her dearly, especially her Pacifica Mamas. What a blessing it has been to be wrapped in her alofa. We will always treasure our special moments together — her warm smile, laughter, stories, and her delicious home cooked meals. She would always remind us that Niue taro is the best in the world!

Our tears flow as we send our alofa and deepest condolences to her beautiful family. We are forever grateful for you sharing your Mama with us all x ♥️

Tīpurepure ‘Au Vaine – Catalogue Launch + Film Screening

Yesterday we travelled to Porirua to celebrate the catalogue launch and film screening of Tīpurepure ‘Au Vaine at Pātaka ✨

This beautiful project celebrates the living art and culture of tīvaivai, shared through the voices, hearts, and hands of the women of Tīpurepure ‘Au Vaine

The afternoon was filled with laughter, the Mamas’ signature warm hospitality, and (of course) far too much delicious food!

It’s an honour for our organisation to support and be part of this kaupapa. Meitaki ma’ata to Ioana Gordon-Smith and Pātaka for this special partnership

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to each member of Tīpurepure ‘Au Vaine for trusting our team to capture your stories on film 🌺

Copies of the catalogue can be requested via PATAKA, and the short film is now available on YouTube:
