Happy World Autism Awareness Day 👍

Today, April 2nd, marks World Autism Awareness Day, a globally recognised occasion observed by the United Nations. This year, the theme resonates deeply: 'Moving from Surviving to Thriving.' It's a powerful call to action, urging us to shift our focus from mere awareness to actively fostering an environment where Autistic individuals not only survive but truly thrive.

Here in New Zealand, we invite you to support the remarkable work of organisations like Autism New Zealand and Altogether Autism. These dedicated groups are tirelessly advocating for and supporting individuals with autism, helping them navigate challenges and seize opportunities to thrive in our society.

Throughout the month of April, which is also Autism Acceptance Month, there are numerous initiatives and events aimed at promoting understanding, acceptance, and inclusivity. One such event by Autism New Zealand is the 'Hoods Up Volume Down' campaign, including a Nationwide Quiet Hour taking place on April 10th at 10am. It's a moment to create a calm, sensory-friendly environment for individuals with autism and their families. Be sure to visit Autism New Zealand for more details and join in this meaningful experience. https://autismnz.org.nz/

Additionally, Altogether Autism is using this month to celebrate the vibrant Autistic community, sharing stories that shed light on the barriers they still face. Through their social media channels, they're showcasing the resilience, creativity, and unique perspectives of Autistic individuals. Join us in following these inspiring stories and amplifying the voices of the Autistic community.

We are proud to be an inclusive organisation celebrating
'World Down Syndrome Day'
showing that we do assume they can & they are doing it at our workplace now.

Thursday 21 March is World Down Syndrome Day. This year, the theme and messaged that supporters are asked to share is End The Stereotypes.

There are many ways you and your organisation can get involved and take action. The World Down Syndrome Day website offers resources that can be used to start conversations, including the popular Lots of Socks campaign and much more.

In honour of this day, we would like to share this incredible video from Coordown that challenges us to end negative assumptions and biases. Rather, Assume That I Can.
