We are a group of people, active in various local community organisations, who live and/or work in the suburbs of the Ōrākei Local Board and neighbouring suburbs. We are here to help build a strong, more connected Auckland East community, so take a look and see all the great things our neighbourhood has to offer! 🎄 Christmas Dress-Up Reminder! 🎄

This Saturday at Ōrākei Bay parkrun we’re getting into the Christmas spirit, so don’t forget to wear your best festive dress-ups! Santa hats, tinsel, reindeer ears, elves… the brighter and sillier the better 🎅🏼✨

We’d also like to wish our wonderful parkrun community a very Merry Christmas and a huge thank you for another great year of walking, jogging, running and volunteering with us. ❤️

📅 Important dates:
• We will not be holding a Christmas Day parkrun at Ōrākei Bay (other parkruns may be operating if you’re keen to get a festive run in).
• We’ll be back as usual on Saturday 27 December and can’t wait to see you then!

See you Saturday, festive outfits encouraged! 🎄👟

The Summer solstice is near, 4.03am on Monday 22nd December. On this day, the sun reaches it's maximum declination and we will experience the longest day of the year.

Enjoy the lengthened light, and get out and about in the fresh air if you can. While summer will get warmer, from Monday we incrementally start to lose light and head towards shorter days again. Make the most of the sunshine while we have it folks!

Power is out. Wi-Fi is gone. But your AM/FM radio? Still sleighing it.
This , give the gift of emergency readiness and put a under the tree.

A battery powered radio is one of the most reliable communications tools during an emergency.
✅ Affordable, practical and easy to use
✅ No Wi-fi or mobile data needed
✅ It’s essential to help keep you informed when the power is out

RNZ is Aotearoa New Zealand’s official civil defence broadcaster. It’s a good idea to make a note of the different frequencies you can tune in for updates during an emergency – especially if you’re travelling around the motu these holidays! https://www.rnz.co.nz/emergency

What is health promotion? 💜

Health promotion is about enabling people to have control over their health and wellbeing. Age Concerns deliver a wide range of health promoting programmes, events and workshops to meet the needs and interests of older people, koroua and kuia. 💕

Some of the health promotion activities various Age Concerns offer include falls prevention education, strength and balance classes, driver education, living without a car workshops, physical activity groups, and nutrition courses and workshops for older people.

Head on to our website - www.ageconcern.org.nz 💻 or head on to the nearest Age Concern near you to find out what health promotion activities are available in your area.
