Bring a friend or your family, come along and spend some time in nature and find out more about the amazing work going on in a park near you.

Volunteers spend a lot of time doing extra work that Council can't afford to do and the efforts are reaping rewards, with more birds returning, less w**d plants growing and a generally healthier reserve.

We have a number of projects and groups active in your area and would love to help you connect or even start up your own "passion project" for nature.

With spring (officially) here, are you looking for some ways to spend more time in nature and build some fresh air into your routine? Or maybe you are looking for a new project that you can take part in as a family?

Whatever the reason, pop along and chat to the Upper Waitematā Ecology Network team who are keen to find out ways to help you connect with nature. It could be finding out about local projects like ours, how you can take action at home or just where to go for a lovely walk. The advice is free so what have you got to loose?

Pop the date in your diary and maybe even start by going for a walk round Greenhithe once you've popped in to see us!

We are so proud to be taking part in this inspirational project to support the Red Admiral butterfly to return to Auckland. You can play your part as well by helping us out. If you feel comfortable hosting some nettle plants in a shady, damp part of your garden or would like to plant some pollinator friendly plants then the butterflies will love you for it!

Decades ago, red admiral butterflies all but abandoned Auckland city. Now, united by two retirees and a tolerance for stinging nettles, dozens of volunteers are doing everything they can to bring the butterflies back.

What did you get up to this weekend? Here are just a few snapshots of what these amazing humans helped out with on Saturday in The Landing in Albany. Making the reserve a better place for native animals and plants by removing w**ds and planting new plants that will feed birds, stabilise soil and improve water quality.

Fancy giving it a go yourself? We'll be out again this Sunday (7th) from 10am, just come along to the walkway between 36-38 Landing Drive and we'll help you fill your social media feeds with images like this next week 💚

It would be amazing to see some local residents come along to our upcoming events. Come and explore the bush, get off the beaten track and find out about what's living on your doorstep (good and bad!).

Saturday 30th sees us heading out clearing out w**ds and preparing sites for planting

Sunday 7th sees us putting plants in the ground, always a special occasion and a great way to leave a legacy as a family in the local reserve.

You can just show up if you can make it, we have all the tools and equipment you need and will be happy to show you how you can help.

We'll have rat traps to give away for your back garden as well. Pop by and say hi

Happening this Wednesday. Our friends at Upper Waitematā Ecology Network will be at the Albany Community Hub and ready to answer your questions about all things environment! Grab some books from Albany Library or sign up for a library card while you are there too.

There will be free rat traps for you to borrow, w**d guides to take away and lots of information about how you can get involved at tree planting events this winter.

It's time to roll up your sleeves, grab your gumboots and join us to make a difference to Lucas Creek by removing that rubbish and waste that's just about to head out to the ocean. We'll be taking action and would love for you to help us make even more impact.

If you or your company would like to support us then we would love a solution as to how we can get a BBQ on site! Any contributions you may be able to make to the refreshments on the day for the fantastic volunteers would also be very appreciated.
