Devonport Rotary Club NZ

Devonport Rotary Club NZ We are proud supporters of our community. We welcome new members and the local people join us. http://devonportrotary.co.nz/get-involved Is it the TRUTH?

Rotary’s main objective is service — in the community, in the workplace, and around the globe. The 1.2 million Rotarians who make up more than 34,000 Rotary clubs in nearly every country in the world share a dedication to the ideal of Service Above Self. The Object of Rotary
================
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, i

n particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. Avenues of Service
===============
For years, Rotary’s commitment to Service Above Self has been channelled through the Avenues of Service, which form the foundation of club activity.
Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the effective functioning of the club. Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards. Community Service covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community. International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace. Rotarians can support International Service by sponsoring a project in another country, seeking international project partners to support projects in their own communities, or by personally volunteering at an international project site. New Generations Service recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development, service projects, and creating international understanding. The Four-Way Test
===============
The test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages, asks the following questions:

Of the things we think, say or do
Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? Mission
======
The mission of Rotary International is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. Diversity and Rotary
================
Rotary International recognizes the value of diversity within individual clubs. Rotary encourages clubs to assess those in their communities who are eligible for membership, under existing membership guidelines, and to endeavour to include the appropriate range of individuals in their clubs. A club that reflects its community with regard to professional and business classification, gender, age, religion, and ethnicity is a club with the key to its future. Whether you’re a veteran volunteer or new to community service, we’re looking for people like you. So get in touch today to find out more. http://devonportrotary.co.nz/contact

Good afternoon members of the Devonport to Hauraki schools community.
Thank you all for agreeing to again support Rotary's national Cans for a Cause programme which aims to assist families struggling with the everyday cost of living through this food collection and distribution programme which was a tremendous success last year,
As we did last year,at a local level, Devonport Rotary will partner with the Shore based Good Works Trust (GWT) food bank, which through its group wide distribution of outlets, will collect your donated food items and arrange for their assembly into food parcels and subsequent delivery to pre registered recipients in the North Shore area.
Sadly, GWT has advised that the need is even greater this year, so this initiative remains very important.
We would like you to now communicate with your pupils' parents and friends with the request that if possible,each pupil will bring a can of food or other food items to school during collection week which this year is the week of June 1 to 5.
We will provide collection boxes to you prior to collection week.
At the end of the collection week, Rotary will arrange for the collection of the food boxes from each school for GWT to add to its stock.
Members of the public can drop off their contribution to the Devonport Library.

The Woodall Park Pump Track needs a bit of a spruce up. Come down this Sunday morning the 24th at 9.30am and join Rotary members.
We will be doing a general clean up, clearing away around some small Kowhai trees, and planting a couple of new natives.
Just bring yourself and some gloves, maybe a spade and rake and we will be out of there in about an hour or so ready for a coffee over at our favourite Narrowneck cafe .

What does Rotary do?
We believe good health care is everyone’s right. Yet 4.6 billion people lack access to essential health services.
Building on our successful fight to eliminate polio, we bring together global experts and leaders to improve and expand access to health care and prevent the spread of diseases so that everyone can lead healthy lives.

Rotary collaborates with local, regional, and international health providers to address preventable and treatable causes of illness and death while promoting equitable health for all.

How Rotary makes help happen
We educate and equip communities to stop the spread of life-threatening diseases. Rotary members have hundreds of health projects underway around the world at any given time.

Access to prevention, treatment, and care for HIV
Members of Rotary Family Health and AIDS Awareness host Rotary Family Health Days in India and across Africa to provide free quality health resources to people who would not have access.
