It's FREE to join! Your local Neighbourhood Support Waitakere organisation works alongside our partners NZ Police, Auckland Council, FENZ Fire & Emergency New Zealand, Auckland Emergency Management

CD, and Community Patrols NZ as well as other local community services to create safe, caring neighbourhoods and communities, reducing the incidents and effects of crime, building community resilience and strengthening community networks to improve the quality of life and enhance well-being. Neighbourhood Support is a nationwide community led movement that brings people and neighbourhoods together to create safe, resilient and connected communities. A well-connected community helps to improve the safety, resilience and well-being of all residents. When you join a Neighbourhood Support group you will:
• Have a great way to get to know the people that live around you.
• Know who the vulnerable people are in your street in the event of any kind of emergency.
• Receive emails and alerts that will keep you up-to-date with news from our community partners, including NZ Police.
• Gain tips and resources to improve your household and neighbourhood safety.
• Learn how you can be better prepared for emergencies.
• By working together we can support each other, solve local issues and make our neighbourhoods safer and more welcoming.
• Be a part of a sustainable network that provides resources and support.
• Your information is safe with us and is held as required under the privacy act. You can either join an existing group or form a new one or join as an individual
When you join a group you get to decide what works best for you. You can share the information you want with who you want and your group can meet when and how it likes. You could:

Stay connected online or by email or phone / mobile
Host street barbecues or events. Volunteer to be a group contact and connect your street. Get organised and undertake some neighbourhood projects.

3 WAYS TO CONNECT WITH YOUR NEIGHBOURS…
• Reach Out Wave, say ‘Kia Ora!’ or introduce yourself. Welcome new residents to your street when they move in.
• Look Out Help keep your community safe by looking out for your neighbours. If something doesn’t look right let them know or get help if needed.
• Help Out Share any surplus from your garden or fruit trees. Offer to take the rubbish out for someone who needs a hand. Take time to have a chat with someone who lives alone. There are many ways you can make a difference in your community! Neighbours that know each other are more likely to offer assistance, accept and ask for help when they need it. Let’s build a stronger Aotearoa by staying more connected. CALL US NOW FOR MORE INFORMATION TO GET YOUR GROUP STARTED! Sharon & Sarah

NOTIFICATION OF ROADWORKS @ Sel Peacock Drive

We need to do some road maintenance in your neighbourhood

Kia ora,
Our role is to ensure that people can move around Auckland easily and safely. We carry out regular maintenance and repair work on the network for all road users of Auckland.

The work we’re doing -
Sel Peacock Dr, Henderson, Auckland
(start date) Tuesday,16 June 2026
of work Sunday – Thursday, 8pm - 6am (night works)
No works on Friday and Saturday nights
we will be doing Asphalt resurfacing the road – milling existing surface and paving new Asphalt
(duration) 5 Nights (weather dependent)

How this affects you-
• We’ll do our best to start the work on time. Factors such as wet weather could mean a delayed
start. If the delay is significant, we’ll notify you.
• We know our work can be a bit loud, and that noise, particularly at night, can be disruptive.
We try our best to avoid working at night but sometimes it is necessary to avoid wider
disruption on roads around Auckland to get the job done faster. We’ll do our best to keep
noise levels down.

Traffic Management and detours-
• We will need to close Sel Peacock Dr and setup detours.
• For the safety of our crews and residents, you’ll need to reduce your speed when you’re
driving through the area. Please follow all signs, light signals and traffic directions.
• Please plan ahead and think about using another route. We’ll set up signs that give traffic
directions for surrounding roads.
• On-street parking will be limited while we carry out the work. You may need to either park on
your property or on a side road and walk to your property.
• Please allow for more time for travel, as there may be possible delays due to reduced speed

HAPPENING THIS SUNDAY

Our annual test of the Emergency Mobile Alert (EMA) system will be sent on Sunday 14 June between 6pm-7pm to all capable phones and other SIM-connected devices ⚠️

This test makes sure the EMA system works as it should nationwide, and helps keep you safe during future emergency events.

❗ If you have a hidden phone for your personal safety, or the sound of the alert affects your physical or mental health in any way, we recommend turning off any devices with a SIM connection between 6-7pm on Sunday 14 June, or putting them into flight mode.

👉📱 You can mute the sound of the alert by pressing the volume button on the side of your phone – this mutes the sound of the EMA while leaving the message on screen for you to read in full.

Winter is the season for house fires.

As the temperature drops, preventable house fires increase 17 percent on average as people do what they can to keep themselves warm.

Most of these fires will start from items such as clothing, beds or couches being too close to a heater or a fire.

These fires can be fatal but that is preventable with some good habits.

So, instead of bombarding you with every hot tip at once, we’ll build one good habit at a time with our winter fire safety series of Hot Tips 🔥

In this series, we’ll cover:
1. Cooking critic turned lifesaver – the humble life of a smoke alarm 🚨
2. Escape my house – a race to get out 🏃‍♂️
3. Size does matter, why items must be 1 metre from the heater 📏
4. Hot under the covers with electric blankets 🛌
5. Belly button or dryer lint – which is more hazardous? 🫧
6. It’s spaghetti junction at the multi-board 🍝

So, whether you own a home, rent or live with family, building some good habits this winter could save your life.
