πŸ’ƒ 200 Years of Sixdrilles πŸ’ƒ

In 1825, Mr Paris made the earliest known reference to the Sixdrilles in the UK when he advertised teaching the dance in Manchester, a dance often linked to the coronation of Charles X, the last crowned French monarch. The dance soon swept across Britain β€” taught by Madame Kennedy in Belfast, Mr Dewar in Carlisle, Mr Fettes in Aberdeen, Mr Gunn in Inverness, Mr Boulogne in Glasgow, and the Lowe brothers in Edinburgh among others.

πŸ“œ Surviving descriptions are available in rare manuals from Glasgow (1827) and Edinburgh (1831) offering glimpses into its structure and style β€” and next Saturday, we’ll bring it to life again.

πŸ•°οΈ Join us to recreate two figures from this dance as part of Manchester Fancy Dress Ball on 15 November at 15:45 at Manchester Royal Exchange Theatre
