Empower Empower is a refugee youth-led organisation addressing the underrepresentation of refugees in higher education in New Zealand

Empower is a refugee youth-led charitable organisation dedicated to empowering, educating, and enabling refugee and other marginalised youth in New Zealand to access new opportunities and pursue meaningful paths of their choice. Empower bridges communities by fostering mutually rewarding relationships between refugee-background students and young Kiwi mentors. These relationships are designed to help students thrive socially, economically, and environmentally while contributing to their communities. Empower provides the structure and support needed for mentors and students to build strong, personalised connections. Mentors gain a deep understanding of their student’s unique talents, aspirations, and challenges, enabling them to offer tailored support and guidance. Recognising the underrepresentation of refugees in higher education in New Zealand, Empower aims to address this disparity by providing a youth-specific support network within the resettlement process, empowering students to achieve their potential.
