This Tuesday, the Downtown Auckland Rotary Club held a pink ribbon breakfast in support of the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.
Our members pulled out their most vibrant pink attire and the Northern Club was done up to suit!
Simon Keable-Elliott, delivered a captivating historical journey. Simon, the grandson of Robert Keable, told the scandalous story of his ancestor—a WW1 chaplain who wrote the controversial novel, Simon Called Peter.
Simon shared how the semi-autobiographical book was banned in Boston, mentioned in The Great Gatsby, and became a bestseller here in New Zealand. Simon, a writer and lecturer who published his first book, Utterly Immoral, in 2023, truly brought this incredible, tumultuous life story to life.
We were privileged to hear from the Breast Cancer Foundation CEO, Ah-Leen Rayner. Ah-Leen illuminated exactly how funds raised are put to work. They provided an insightful look into the crucial research being undertaken to push for new frontiers in early detection, treatment, and support, which are ultimately changing outcomes for New Zealanders affected by breast cancer.
A huge thank you to all our speakers and the Party Committee for making this such an engaging and successful meeting!
