United North Piha Lifeguard Service Provides Volunteer patrols the 2.4km North Piha beach

North Piha Lifeguard Service has protected the lives of those who visit North Piha for over 50years. United North Piha Lifeguard Service was created in 1973 as the result of the amalgamation of North Piha Surf Club and Eastern United Surf Club from Browns Bay. Like most Surf Lifesaving Clubs throughout New Zealand United North Piha's beginnings were the result of a few determined genuinely caring citizens. The drive to Piha back in the 1940's until the 1970's was a dust chocked narrow metal road in summer and a slippery mud bath in winter. Those harty volunteers would often travel out on a Friday evening and patrol for the entire weekend. Todays volunteers whip over the hills in airconditioned cars in less than 30 minutes from Henderson. There was a great need for a club house. Local identity Les Waygood donated land, locals and members fund raised and lobied for materials to build the club house which still stands today but in a modified form.

To activate the squad simply call 111, ask for Police and inform them there are people in trouble in the water and provide as much information possible.

United was honoured to once again be part of our local ANZAC Day parade and service the base of Lion Rock. It was great to see many members turning out on such a beautiful day to pay their respects.

What a weekend at the 2026 IRB Nationals 🎉

Our United Airlines crew showed up and gave it everything against some seriously tough competition. With full throttle moments, podium finishes and some creative zinc designs, the team absolutely delivered and we couldn’t be prouder 💙💛

Tandem Air: U23 Female (Rosie, Kate and Maddi)
🥉 3rd place: Single rescue
⚡️ 6th place: Mass rescue
⚡️ Semi finals: Tube rescue, assembly and teams

Business Class: U23 Female (Lily, Olivia and Simone)
⚡️ 5th place: Tube rescue
⚡️ 5th place: Assembly
⚡️ Semi finals: Mass rescue, single rescue and teams

Knot Shore: U19 Male (Toby, Milton and Lewis)
⚡️ Semi finals: Tube rescue and single rescue
⚡️ Second competition ever for these boys, super proud of them!

This trip was a true team effort. From competitors, the massive crew of supporters on the beach, towing gear, it really does take a village to make it happen.

A huge thank you to Brendan and the team at Access Specialties Ltd for their support and trailer sponsorship. It continues to help make opportunities like this possible for our team.

Club Day 2026 💙💛

Clubbies of all ages turned out for our annual day of friendly rivalry and plenty of club spirit! Events like beach sprints and flags kept the traditional competition alive, while the new IRB race had some of United’s top drivers going head to head.

Days like this bring everyone together and show exactly what our club is all about ⚡️

Check out our United guards representing Surf Lifesaving at the Everyday Heroes event at NorthWest Shopping Centre in West Auckland ⚡

It was great to connect alongside New Zealand Police, Fire and Emergency, Hato Hone St John and Coastguard, to celebrate the everyday teams that protect and support our communities.

Such a fantastic day showcasing what we do and meeting so many local whānau. There may even be a few future lifeguards in the making! 💙💛

Our annual Meet The Locals event last weekend with the North Piha Water Board was a fabulous evening of catching up, meeting new friends and sharing plenty of kai! Shout out to for bringing the vibes with their live music and keeping the dance floor busy after dinner!
