Kia ora e te whānau,

We're excited to be running a youth-led research project aimed at understanding the unique challenges young people face, especially around balancing responsibilities and achieving success at school. This research will give us valuable insights into the barriers students face and what helps our rangatahi thrive!

We're inviting Senior High School students from South Auckland schools to share their experiences by taking part in a quick survey (just 10-15 minutes). We are asking teachers and school leaders to encourage their students to participate—we truly appreciate your support in making this research meaningful.

What is social justice and how might we work towards social justice in the field of education? These are no easy questions. This is why we asked some people we admire to help us address them.

Listen to Keakaokawai Varner Hemi, Assistant Vice-Chancellor Pacific at the University of Waikato, sharing her perspective.

Nau mai, haere mai

Māia Centre for Social Justice and Education is a non-profit organisation working to advance social justice through education.

Social Justice relates to the belief that every person is of equal worth, and on that basis should be recognised and treated equally and with respect for who they are. Our kaupapa is ensuring that all young people have what they need to achieve their potential through education. We do this by working with young people, teachers and schools on research, programmes and PLD.

*Oh, and we also make earrings and other cool things which are available from our online shop!
