If you're a fan of TVNZ+'s Celebrity Treasure Island, tune in on Monday to cheer on Shortland Street star Ria Vandervis who is competing to raise money for the Cancer Research Trust NZ (yes, the same charity we fundraise for). 💜

We are so excited to share that the wonderful, talented Ria Vandervis is competing on Celebrity Treasure Island, playing to raise valuable funds for Cancer Research Trust New Zealand! Ria shared why:

"I'm supporting the New Zealand Cancer Research Trust, the only organisation in New Zealand that is a charity that raises funds for all sorts of cancer research. I feel like in a time where AI and technology is advancing so rapidly, it's a really exciting time for that sector. But all around the world, you know, people seem to be cutting funding for it, so every dollar counts."

Ria, we couldn't agree more!

Make sure to tune in and help us cheer Ria on!
Celebrity Treasure Island premieres Monday 27 April at 7:30pm on TVNZ 2 and TVNZ+ and continues Tuesday and Wednesday each week.

Every year on the 12 April, Terry Fox Runs around the world officially launch.🎉

Why 12 April? Because that’s the date that Terry started his Marathon of Hope, his run across Canada in 1980.

📅 So please mark your calendars for this year’s Terry Fox Run in NZ. We’re running/walking in Auckland and Christchurch on Sun. 20 Sep’26.

For any of our Auckland friends doing this Sunday's half...

The decision has been taken to postpone the 2026 Waterfront Half Marathon to the official rain date of April 19th 2026. Whilst there still remains some uncertainty around the weather conditions for this Sunday, April 12th, current Met Service forecasts predict “damaging and potentially life threatening” winds whilst other government agencies have advised preparedness and extreme caution. The zenith of the storm’s effects on Auckland coincide exactly with the event window. Against that backdrop, it is not tenable or responsible to proceed. We understand how disappointing this news is. We’re gutted. But the safety of everyone involved in the event must come first.

We fully appreciate the weather on Sunday may not turn out to be that bad. We sincerely hope it is not. Advanced weather modelling is above our pay grade. However, there is a strong need to provide certainty to participants and event partners and waiting any longer may jeopardise our ability to produce on our alternate date. Hindsight (and blue skies) on Sunday morning will not make this decision any less correct at this time.

We have tried our very best to get ahead of this to make arrangements for a postponement. The Waterfront Half Marathon is not school sports or a Saturday parkrun. It takes the cooperation and availability of many essential services to enable us to change course – traffic management, buses (ours and public), marshals, medics, toilets, fencing … the list goes on. Fortunately, with the assistance of our partners – and in particular the efforts of Auckland Transport and Independent Traffic Control – we believe we can confirm all of the essential resources and permissions to make this change.

We look forward to finally getting the all-new 2026 ASICS Waterfront Half Marathon underway on the new event date of April 19th.

Who was Terry Fox?
Terry was an inspirational young man who, at the age of 18, was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma, a rare bone cancer. Within days, his leg was amputated above the knee and he was fitted with an artificial limb.
Believing that advances in research had saved his life, Terry decided to run across Canada (8,530 kms) to raise money for cancer research.
After 143 days and running 5,374 kms, Terry ended his run after discovering his primary cancer had spread to his lungs.
Terry died in 1981, but his legacy lives on. For the past 45 years, people around the world have been participating in Terry Fox Runs and raising money for cancer research in Terry’s name.
