A new name, a stronger voice. As New Zealand’s property sector evolved, so too did the organisation representing it.

In this latest Built to Last story, former CEO and Chair John Dakin and former BOMA National President Mal McLennan reflect on the transition from BOMA to Property Council New Zealand.

A change that marked a new era for the organisation and strengthened its voice with local and central government.

Nearly one in five New Zealanders lives with a disability, while 29% of the LGBTIQ+ community identifies as disabled. Those statistics remind us that accessibility and inclusion are deeply connected.

Is New Zealand doing enough to meet the climate challenge?

As sustainability expectations continue to reshape the property sector, one of the most anticipated sessions at The Property Conference 2026 will ask the tough questions.

In his Climate Reality Check, Dr. Rod Carr will provide an honest assessment of where Aotearoa stands in the global climate response and what it means for the future of the built environment.

Under the conference theme Markets, Maturity, and Momentum, the session will explore:

🌱 How climate change is influencing investment and development decisions
⚡ Where New Zealand is making progress—and where it's falling behind
🤝 The partnerships and practical actions needed to accelerate change
🏙️ The role the property sector must play in building a more resilient future

For an industry navigating evolving regulation, investor expectations and sustainability targets, this isn't just a conversation about climate, it's a conversation about long-term competitiveness.

Join us in Sydney as industry leaders come together to tackle the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of property.
