Catalyse

Catalyse Co-creating change that matters and will last. Catalyse brings people together to discover what matters to them collectively. People are better together.

We build on what is already there and work together to turn ideas into actions that make a positive difference. By working together, we get more done and in more effective ways.Catalyse is about supporting, enabling and facilitating change at a local level in ways where people who live, work and play in a place also lead the changes there alongside others. Our mission is to catalyse locally led ch

ange by brokering connections, being of service and synergising individuals, organisations, policies and tasks into results that are more than the sum of the contributing parts.

We’d like to give a huge thank you to Little Community Libraries of New Zealand for generously donating a wonderful selection of books to the newly opened community space in Victoria Quarter.

This is part of our community-building project in this high density, inner city neighbourhood.

Our new bookshelf is now fully stocked, and it’s already sparking wonderful neighborhood kōrero. This is a way for us to:
* Foster connection: We’re already discussing starting a local book club and hosting quiet reading times to bring people together.
* Build belonging: Creating a "living room" for the neighborhood where everyone feels welcome to stay, read, and relax.
* Strengthen resilience: These social anchors help us move from just "being together" to "doing life together."

A true community project that was well supported by Albert-Eden Local Board. The mural is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on what's important while providing some much-needed whimsy.

We highly recommend playing the game of hopscotch!

Blast from the past! We remember with much fondness when we ran The Kūmara Awards so it was a very lovely surprise to see this award displayed in the welcoming foyer of MPHS Hub West this week, Kathryn Lawlor, and to remember the fabulously warm (despite the weather!) and supportive awards ceremony of a couple of years ago.

In a world awash with crazy stuff, it's awesome to know that there are many amazing local initiatives also happening. Maybe it's time to share more of these? Maybe it's time for a Kūmara Awards revival...

This reminds me of that Derek Sivers Ted Talk on creating a movement and being brave enough to join those doing something a bit different. First one, then two, then three and then everyone joins in, copies, adds their own flourishes and quirks. Because no one wants to be left out and there’s always room for adaptation. We don’t all have to be leaders doing something a bit different but joining in makes it a lot more fun and effective! Plus, often, today’s leaders were yesterday’s joiners - be an early joiner!

Last year, as part of our community-led flood recovery facilitation in Epsom, we held a series of creative sessions with different parts of the community.

Locals were invited to decorate a pre-painted plywood leaf with their design and a wish for a recovered Epsom.

These individual leaves have now been brought together as a mural, forming a shared community vision on a Category 3 property purchased by Auckland Council.

We invite you to visit the mural and turn over the leaves to reveal what people who live, work, play and study in Epsom want to see for their neighbourhood's future.

A huge thank you to all those that participated in the creation of this community mural, including: Earth Action Trust, Epsom Chinese Association, Epsom Community Library, St Andrew's Epsom, Auckland Normal Intermediate, Kohia Terrace School, Cavell Girl Guides, Epsom Normal Primary School, Epsom Community Centre.

Mōrena from the Catalyse garden and the wishes created with our collaborators at Autumn Equinox.

Tui chatter and the hum of a concrete truck - it’s a great soundtrack for the working day!
