Listen to your instincts - if something
feels wrong then it generally is.
Visit the www.scamwatch.co.nz for more information on how you can prevent yourself, family and friends from being scammed.
If you are unsure if a call is genuine, the best thing you can do is hang up.
Anyone who believes they are a victim of a scam, in person, over the phone or online, should immediately report it to their bank, and then to their local Police. Tonight we are lighting in green in support of Bowel Cancer Awareness Month.

Know the symptoms. Get checked. Take action this June.

Bowel cancer is the second-highest cause of cancer death in New Zealand, but it shouldn’t be – it’s beatable and treatable if diagnosed early enough.

You must make space for emergency vehicles.

If you hear sirens or see flashing lights from an emergency vehicle heading in your direction, you need to pull over to where it’s safe and wait until they’ve passed.

If it’s not safe to stop, slow down and move to wherever creates the most space for the emergency vehicle to pass.

Make sure to always check your blind spots, don’t drive up on footpaths, and don’t stop in the middle of intersections.

One emergency vehicle can be followed by another, so wait, check your mirrors, and only move on when it is clear. Gillian Dance;Nanette Nathoo Qsm;Heather Alford;Lingappa Kalburgi;Waitakere Grey Power Association;Grey Power North Shore;Grey Power New Zealand Federation Inc

HAPPY 67TH BIRTHDAY TO THE AUCKLAND HARBOUR BRIDGE
My, how time flies! Our iconic ‘coat hanger’ has turned 67.

Since it opened on 30 May 1959, it has transformed the North Shore and beyond – opening up suburb after suburb of new housing, and new business areas.

As well as being a crucial transport link carrying around 170,000 vehicles every day, the bridge also carries vital services including water, gas, power, and communications.

At 67, it’s hardly surprising that the bridge has developed some ‘wrinkles’. It’s carrying far more vehicles than it was ever designed for, and there have long been concerns about the ‘clip ons’ added in the 60s and the bridge’s overall structural integrity.

Decades of talk about another harbour crossing have still come to nothing, and it seems likely to be many more years before work begins on anything to supplement or replace it. SCAM ALERT ‼️ Police are urging members of the public to be aware of an online scam targeting people interested in attending fitness sessions in Auckland.

Victims have reported seeing Tai Chi classes being advertised on Facebook and asking them to register their interest.

After completing the online form the victims are contacted, usually via WhatsApp, and being instructed to download an app which is claimed to be used to book classes.

Once downloaded this app allows the scammers to access the victims bank accounts.

Police are advising the public to be aware of this scam and to not engage with anyone over WhatsApp about downloading apps onto their phone.

Anyone who would like to report an instance of this occurring or has information about those responsible is asked to update Police online now or call 105 using the reference number260322/6620.

Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

With winter just around the corner - it’s time for a refresher on winter driving ❄️

Here are some quick tips to keep you safe on the roads ⬇️

-If your vehicle has been outside overnight, make sure you clear all ice from windows, so you can see clearly while driving.
-When foggy, turn on your head lights (don’t rely on auto lights!)
-Adjust your speed to suit the conditions - when icy or snowy, drive slower than you normally would to reduce the risk of losing control or skidding.
-Allow greater following distance between you and the vehicle ahead.
-Prepare and plan early departures so you don't run late.
