We’re so excited to share some big news with our community — not only are we launching a brand new community hub space, but this month also marks 7 years of the Whangaparāoa Hub Community Trust! 🎉

What better way to celebrate than creating a vibrant, welcoming space where people can connect, create, and belong.

We’re kicking things off with an exciting collaboration with Antimode Collective and their vibrant, colourful pop-up store — packed with creative energy, local flair, and a taste of what’s to come.

And this is just the beginning…

Coming soon: a dynamic makerspace where ideas come to life — from sewing and crafting to workshops, skill-sharing, and hands-on experiences for all ages. 🧵🛠️

This space has always been about community — and we’re so proud to be growing it with you.

🧵 **Whangaparāoa — we heard you!**

The **Whangaparāoa Hub Community Trust** has been listening to the community, and we’re excited to share that we’re finalizing plans for sewing skills sessions for all ages in our new Hub and Makerspace at Coast Plaza

Even better — these sessions are being made possible with the **generous support of Brother NZ**. ✂️

As part of this, we’re exploring **fun sewing classes and holiday workshops for kids**, where they can learn new skills, get creative with fabric, and proudly say *“I made this!”*

Before we lock everything in, we’d love to hear from local families so we can shape classes that really work for our community.

'Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the town,
Parents were frazzled, running around!
The to-do lists were endless, the stress levels high,
"One more errand!" they'd shout, with a weary sigh.
But wait! There's good news coming your way—
The Community Hub is here to save the day! 🎄
We know December is absolutely bonkers. Between the shopping, wrapping, baking, and trying to remember if you already bought something for Aunty Sue (you did, twice), it's a LOT.
So this Monday and Tuesday, we're throwing open the doors at Coast Plaza from 10am-3pm for some much-needed creative calm in the chaos.
Bring the kids! Bring yourself! We've got:

Colouring pages galore
Paper crafts to make Christmas cards
Decorations to colour and paint

(Huge thanks to New Creation for making the magic happen! ✨)
Whether you need an hour to tick something off your list while the little ones create, or you just want to sit down and colour something yourself (no judgment—adult colouring is valid), we've got you covered.

A massive set of thanks to the team behind yesterday's meet the candidates event, the candidates for showing up and the 80 or so people who showed up.

First to Coast Whangaparāoa for giving us access to the space that both they and us at Future Whangaparaoa - Whangaparāoa Āpōpō hope may become the much improved Community Hub and all new Maker's Space.

Second to Whangaparāoa College for the chairs and microphones to make an event possible in this long empty space. A special note of thanks to School DP Marara Schreurs and her whanau, Bruce and Johann who with the latter's flat bed truck efficiently moved nearly 150 chairs from the College to the venue. A real mahi of love and community commitment.

Then to Business Whangaparaoa who co hosted and supported the event.

And thanks to Liquorland Whangaparaoa for the loan of their van for the weekend's to and fro.

And up the front thanks to moderator John Davies, and timer Wayne Tancred, both Trustees at Whangaparāoa Community Hub / Hub o Te Hapori Whangaparāoa .

Finally to the tangata, all the trustees, the audience and the candidates who showed up on a less than hospitable day to share and learn.

Ka pai, nga mihi nui, Cheers and thank you all so much for supporting another A Very Coastie Event . See you at A Very Coastie Christmas in the same space and all over Coast, Sunday December 7.
