This morning, we marked the opening of 61 new homes at Bayswater, built on Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei land to provide quality rental housing for New Zealand Defence Force personnel and their whānau.
The landholdings of the hapū across the North Shore were acquired following our Treaty settlement in 2012 as commercial assets to provide for the future of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei. Since then, we have continued to invest in these lands through Oneoneroa, our partnership with Ryman at Ngataringa, Summerset in Belmont, and now our partnership with NZDF here at Bayswater.
Our development philosophy is simple: building homes, building communities, building Tāmaki, building futures.
That means creating long-term value for the hapū, while ensuring our developments make a positive contribution to the communities they are part of. Here in Bayswater, we know the NZDF and Navy are a key part of the history and the future of this area which we are proud to be part of.
We are also proud that Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei whānau businesses Rua Construction, Orakei 7, Guaranteed Showers and Guaranteed Electrical were part of bringing these homes to life with our build partner Precision Construction.
A significant milestone for the hapū and another example of what can be achieved through strong partnerships.
